Insurance question

I don’t really know anything about how medical insurance works. My insurance has a $2500 in network deductible and a $5000 out of network deductible. I called our insurance today and they said that I still had the full $2500 left on in network deductible and I had $101 off the $5000 deductible. I’ve been getting bills from my doctor for prenatal appointments and everything and my doctors is an in network provider for my insurance. Do I have to pay those bills before the insurance company recognizes them? Or could it be that the insurance company had a different birthday for me than the doctors(which is why I called the insurance company today)even though I was getting the papers from my insurance company saying how much I would probably get billed for? Because the bills are a lot and would definitely help towards the deductible and it’s making me nervous that I will have to pay a lot more of my hospital bill than I should be

Did the doctors bill your insurance first? Generally the insurance company will tell your doctor what they are allowed to charge for a service, then you are responsible for paying up to the deductible. That amount would show wether or not you paid your portion yet because it would already have been ran through your insurance.

Okay thank you. So it must because my birthday is different from my doctors and the insurance but I have gotten the thing from my insurance saying that they were billed and how much was covered. I’m pretty sure I haven’t got that since January though and I just never noticed I wasn’t receiving that anymore since I was still getting the actual medical bills. Which is weird because why would they all of a sudden stop if I never switched doctor offices? Oh well I’ll figure it out eventually

Your dr should be submitting them to insurance. Insurance will cover what they cover and you’ll receive a bill for the remainder. What you then pay will go towards your deductible. Or out of pocket costs.
