My two cents is definitely start counting the diapers.. the app BabyNursing is a good one to document diapers. Tummy time is definitely important and holding her upright doesn’t take the place of that. And she’s kind of too little to love toys yet... I’m sure she’ll show more interest as she developed the hand eye coordination to be able to hold them and bring them to her mouth, etc. I saw you commented about a bouncer and I really encourage you to talk to her pedi about that. It’s crucial she doesn’t hurt her little spine and hips, and she’s WAY too young for that. Try something like a mamaroo that you can adjust so she’s leaning back flat but still at an angle to be able to see the room!

@emilyinsd yeah lol, my son was the same way, always so smart for his age and too smart for his own good half the time and still is haha

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, same here. The last 2 weeks, she has made impressive improvements. She pretty much decided she was going to sleep through the night and hold her head straight up when being held. It’s almost like she decided she wanted to be a big girl and no one was going to stop her

@emilyinsd my son was good with his neck muscles too as soon as he was born but still needed a lot of practice to control his head well.

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, that’s good to know. She started lifting her head just a few hours after she was born and (for just being born) held it for a long time (it felt like at least 30 seconds but I could be very wrong).

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, she does love laying on our chest but we didn’t think that counted because the angle changes which muscles she uses

@emilyinsd yeah she will definitely need better neck support first, we didn't get a door bouncy until my son was at least 8 months old when he could support himself better, I'd definitely keep working with her with tummy time if you can because it will help a lot. If she doesn't like to be on the floor doing it, you can lay her on your knees or chest too

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, that’s impressive. If she could stabilize her head better, we would be looking into the bouncers that you put in doorways just so she could bounce herself. But she definitely doesn’t have enough neck muscles for my comfort to put her in one

@emilyinsd lol yeah my son always tried jumping too so I'd just hold him up and let him kick off my lap and he used to have a big smile and laugh as he got older and never wanted to stop. By the time he was 6 months old he was pulling himself up on things

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, she loves to bounce. I discovered it when she was about 2 weeks old. Sometimes it’s the only way I can calm her down. My arms get tired though from holding her like that and bouncing her. At this rate I’ll be completely ripped in the arms with a flabby stomach lol.

My son used to love standing up like that too on my lap and I'd let him but he still didn't start walking until he was 14 or 15 months old, he just had strong legs and he always wanted to bounce too

@emilyinsd, I’d try babywearing. Keeps her in the correct spine and leg position and she gets to be upright.

@emilyinsd, we used to have to monitor diapers for my preemie. They said if they didn’t “plop” when you drop it, it didn’t count. My husband would just leave the diaper next to the table for me to inspect 😂 I hung a bag at the changing table for the day and monitored that way.

@pumpernickel, I am concerned about the dry diaper. I may not count diapers (I would need a white board over her changing table otherwise I’d loose count) but I feel like I’m changing plenty in a day. Would you count a less than full diaper as one?

@laniejay, she will cry sometimes until I have her upright. She also sometimes cries until I have her sitting like a big girl. So for counting diapers, are they all supposed to be so full because I guarantee you that I change everyday at least 2 diapers that are pushing their limit plus a guaranteed 2 less full ones and then my husband changes some when he gets home. I don’t know how full those are because I don’t ask.

This all sounds normal. The dry diaper would concern me though, I agree with laine on counting diapers

@emilyinsd, that’s just a reflex with her legs. It’s important not to have her do that until she’s older. I would start counting diapers. It’s very easy to get dehydrated when they’re that little.

@laniejay, my thoughts as well for the standing, but she will push off on her own until she is standing and I support almost all of her weight when she does so. I’m bad at actually counting how many diapers I change each day but she will have multiple ones that look like they are pushing the diapers limit and a few that still have room for more but I change anyways. I’m not sure if this matters but last week she did get her shots

She’s too young to stand on her legs - you can hurt her hips and spine and cause developmental issues. Tummy time can be done on your chest, on your legs, etc. she’s also too young to have a dry diaper at night- is she having 6-8 very wet diapers a day. Meaning if you were to drop them on the ground, they’d make a plop sound.
