teething tablets=seizures?

Hello ladies, today at work one of my employees told me her friend had been giving her lo teething tablets regularly and her lo is now having seizures. I'm not sure the reasoning but she and her friend believe the seizures are being caused by the tablets. Has anyone heard anything similar?

As a dental professional we give out a brochure to new parents this is on the Do not give list for many reasons such as this one.

She took her son to the doctor and the i believe the doctor said it was the teething tablets.

I've heard regarding the Hylands teething tablet brand that the formula has been changed since the seizure issues were reported years back

Did a medical profession run tests and determine that the teething tablets were the cause? We do not use teething tablets, or any homeopathic remedies in my house. They are not regulated, therefore, any ingredient in any amount can be in them. The label does not have to be correct with supplements. Homeopathic remedies fall into that category.

She would have to be giving her child A LOT for them to cause that. I would also like to know why she thinks they're causing it, is the seizure happening immediately afterwards? Febrile seizures aren't that uncommon, and I'm not sure how someone with no training would be able to accurately diagnose that. Also, has she not gone to the hospital yet!? Why is she just sitting there watching her child have a seizure? I have so many questions lol. But in 2011 they had a total recall of the tablets, changed their formula, and then put them back out. Maybe she read an article about that that's making her think this is what's causing the seizures? I would be much more interested in what the hospital has to say about this situation

Mama I always go by the directions, thank you ? I just am a worry wart ?

Pp if you follow the directions they're not likely to cause a problem just like any other drug you have to use the least amount possible

I've been using them for the past couple weeks but after reading this I think I'm gonna stop. Yep, I'm that overprotective mom and a ftm so still learning things.

The problem with herbal medicine is not every one processes them.

You aren't supposed to give more than 2 tablets 4 times a day and only for a short time says that right on the package

I'm surprised to learn there is belladona in them.

I gave them to my son all the time when he was teething never had a problem. I once asked my doctor about them he said you would have to give something like 40 bottles at once to have a reaction.

She should take her child to the emergency room and tell them what she's been using how offer and what has been happening so that the child can receive treatment.

If the child is building up a toxic level of the medicine in their system it could possibly be very serious

I've never used them but the employee who told me about it has been giving them to her lo frequently. She's really scared.

The active agents in belladonna, atropine, hyoscine (scopolamine), and hyoscyamine, have anticholinergic properties.[21][22] The symptoms of belladonna poisoning include dilated pupils, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, tachycardia, loss of balance, staggering, headache, rash, flushing, severely dry mouth and throat, slurred speech, urinary retention, constipation, confusion, hallucinations, delirium, and convulsions

Just a little information on what symptoms of toxicity are

I haven't heard that but I don't doubt it. That's scary ? guess I'm throwing the teething tablets out.

If they're over doing it most teething tablets contain belladonna which can be toxic

Are teething tablets safe to use? I've heard that they cause seizures & blood in the brain.

EVERYONE: please read this. Teething tablets are causing seizures in infants. All drug stores are taking them off the shelves.
