For those of you that say mental illness is something completely different, do you think a person can be totally healthy and just be evil? In that case where do you think the evil comes from?
No. Some people chose to do bad things once they get older, but that's usually a result of influences they had around them while growing up. Hitler was actually a decent guy until he was injured in WW1 and had some trauma from that. After that he CHOSE hate. Good and evil are choices.
I agree that mental illness is entirely a different thing. Most of them can be treated with meds to some degree. Some do bad things without realizing it's bad - that's not choosing bad, it's not understanding: like a baby doesn't understand not to throw things.
I think people can be born evil, it's extremely rare but I think that it's underlying cause is probably some sort of defect in their brain. I have seen some truly evil children, children who killed their sibling because they didn't get something or their parents weren't paying as much attention to them. No remorse, no empathy, just evil...I think that labeling it not evil because it's mentally caused doesn't give it enough due. Our personality is a mental condition as well, so we could then say that being 'too good' is a mental illness as well.
