so ashamed
Today so, baby and I had to take a cab because we're getting the car fixed. I took the car seat and left the base in our car.

Yes. I knew this.
Glad the driver showed you! It could've possibly be a life saver one day. ?

Don't be ashamed. You learned something and now you can utilize that knowledge :)

Yes. It makes me wonder what other mistakes I'm making.

I never knew that the whole time by DD was in a carrier ?

Yep. The base is just a convenience, not a requirement. I do find it challenging to get a tight fit though.
deleted-user·
I didn't know it, but I always do it just to be safe. Good to know!

Yup I knew that. Found out by reading the car seat manual. I still lock the seatbelt with the base.

Jemvali, to get a tight fit I find it best that u put Ur entire weight by putting Ur knee in the car seat to press down while u can tighten n lock the sealbelt.
deleted-user·
Wait how do you lock the seat belt?
I've never used the car seat without an infant base but now I'm curious

You have to pull the belt all the way out so it locks like it does if you lean forward suddenly.

Bemom, the way u lock the seatbelt is by pulling (unraveling) the belt all the way until u can't anymore. Then when u feed it back it locks. Only way to unlock it is by undoing the seatbelt entirely n fully retracted.

Oh man i am fiddling with the babys seat now but i dont know that im doing it right do i pull the seat belt put all the way? Then let it retact and jerk it like if i was slammimg on the brake?

Pull the belt out all the way when your buckling it in. When the slack retracts it will be locked not leaving any slack for it to move.

Thank you!

@hola I do that, but I find the end result varies when leather or cloth seats. Focus using my body against it, keeping the seat level and wiggling it for the tightest belt lock.

Yeah I read the entire manual front to back before he was born, says it more than once

My last child was born 11 yrs ago so bases didn't come with every car seat and they were still pretty new. The one we had didn't have one so I knew that about the seat belts having to be locked first . I'm the opposite i don't know anything about all these new things it took me and my SO 20 mins just to figure out how to adjust the base and then another 20 mins figuring out how to install it we both didn't know there's little metal hooks in our vehicles car seats that you have to hook the base up to first lol . Good thing we're figuring all this out before baby were seriously both like first time parents just cuz everything is so more high tech then it was with our last son .
