Just educate yourself and have advocates.

@sweetsap88 I know they say its changed but, with everything going on I read its still been a higher death rate for us then others. So I just really want everyone surrounding me to be on the same page.

@muva.tings gosh, this brings up some bad feelings :/ you know that black women were used as test subjects for pregnancy pain levels and epidural trials? I think that's possibly where the misconception comes from. Non blacks were more likely to be given pain relief during labor. Blacks were forced to labor in pain because of that. Hopefully things have changed :) pain is now seen as subjective and is whatever the pt says it is

@sweetsap88 thats crazy! I was actually scared at the amount of black women that die giving birth. They for whatever reason assume our pain tolerance is higher than average and ignore our pleas. I made my man promise me if I say something is wrong that he'll make sure they don't ignore me like I don't know my own body.

Someone I know had one 2 yrs ago because of preeclampsia. She wanted a vbac for this pregnancy, all throughout her visits the dr was like "yeah, yeah, vbac no problem." Then as soon as she was almost full term, dr starts telling her she might not be able to do vbac, cuz baby is too big, her pelvis is too small, she might have gd (they tested her twice), she's not advancing like she should, they won't let her go past x amount of weeks, a laundry list of things why she can't get her vbac.

She switched drs at 38 weeks, had her baby vaginal, no problem and baby was only 7lbs 11oz. It's crazy the 1st dr was trying to scare her into a c section

@sweetsap88 I think usually they have our best interest in mind. From the stories I've heard when people have unexpected c-sections its usually due to really important things like the cord being wrapped around the babies neck which would make a natural birth in no way safe. And then when you have them due to being past 40 weeks my friend said hers was super smooth and she didn't feel a thing. They put a curtain up so she wouldn't see them opening her up and a few mins later her baby was on her chest.

@muva.tings Lol, girl, it's just a fear though. I think I'm just being paranoid. Cuz now I'm 36 weeks and baby 6lbs. I think too late for a 9lb-er 🤞🏾 I'm just scared of the dr coming up with some bs as to why I need a section

@ek620 did you go natural or get an epidural?

@muva.tings, oh wow! No, not a nightmare AT ALL! Like I said, it was pretty smooth as far as labor & delivery go. I had zero issues & my son was perfectly healthy. It didn’t take long to heal afterwards either! It was my first (and so far only) delivery.

@ek620 my doctor made it seem like having a 9 pound baby is a nightmare. That i'd run the risk of hurting her shoulders while pushing and all kinds of stuff -.- def the reason talking to other moms is good lol

@sweetsap88, Yup, vaginal delivery after my water broke. Labored for 7-8 hours then pushed for maybe 15 minutes.

I had a 9lb 6oz baby. Was a very easy labor & delivery. I find the worry about 9lb babies super amusing.

@sweetsap88 I'm wondering if a c section is easier? I know the healing process takes much longer but it would be easier if we do have 9 pounders right? Lol

You're doing great, pssh, I put on like 50 pounds, I'm worried about a 9 lb baby and them telling me I have to do c section cuz the baby too big 😧

Birth Plan Rant I used to be all about getting an epidural, but after research and thinking about it more I want to have an unmedicated birth (this is my first baby). What annoys me is when I say that I'm going to TRY my hardest to have a natural and unmedicated birth people always feel the need to say that I'm crazy or that I'm going to change my mind when I get in that position. Or that epidurals are the best. I do realize that plans change, but why can't people be supportive and encouraging?

not where I want to be but I'm proud I look better then prior to my pregnancy body .. I am sharing this with all mom's to let you all know that with an hour at the gym 3 to 4 times a week anything is possible ! as long as you put your mind to it ! I'm 20 pounds less than I was prepragnancy . currently 150 pounds , tiger stripes and all .. 15 pounds to go to my target weight ... mom's you can do it ! it takes time to see the progress but it's worth it
