That is VERY normal. Once your milk comes in, it is 100% normal that you will have an overproduction because your body doesn’t know exactly how much your baby needs yet. Your body is a machine. This machine thinks in this way: Any and every stimulation to the breast means that the baby is trying to eat. The baby is hungry. So we need to produce more to keep up. It will take a few months to completely regulate so that you have just enough to provide for your daughter. In the meantime, your body is on overdrive thinking that it needs TONS of milk to keep its new baby alive. In my personal experience, my girl did not want to eat a ton and I was very engorged. So I pumped. Did it cause an oversupply? Yes. But I just kept at it. Eventually, her hunger began to match what I was making so it worked itself out AND I stocked a pretty hefty freezer stash of milk in the mean time from pumping. Also, if you feel engorged and leaky when your daughter starts to eat, it means your let down is about to come in FULL FORCE because it’s been waiting and waiting to be released. If she chokes or gags a little while eating, don’t panic. It’s just because the milk is shooting down her throat super sonic speed and she doesn’t know how to control it yet. It helps to sit her upright a bit so she can hold milk in her mouth a little longer before swallowing ☺️ Also, I highly recommend getting a little cup or a handheld “suction pump” and placing it over the breast she is not eating from. When you have tons of milk, once your letdown hits, the other side is going to go nuts and start leaking like crazy. It’s helpful to have something there to catch it so it doesn’t go to waste ☺️
