In the meantime did you supplement or did you continue to breastfeed ?
3-4 days. I kept breastfeeding. Newborns have very tiny stomachs & the colostrum is all they need until your milk comes in.
@ek620, @ashleycorinaa, Was it painful to latch them on even without the milk coming in ?
@leslyev92, It was painful breastfeeding for the first few weeks. Then after a couple of weeks it was pain free.
@leslyev92, it was for me but it was because she wouldn’t latch correctly because day 1 my MIL gave her a pacifier and nipple confusion happened. I called my midwife who was also a lactation specialist and she helped with positioning and after that it was fine
@ashleycorinaa, oh wow 🤦🏻♀️ but after she started latching on correctly it got easier ?
Right after birth. I put them on immediately and then got colostrum then that night I had milk
@leslyev92, yeah 100% better. It was like there was no issue in the first place so I was glad I called her. Only time I had pain again was during that first cluster feeding frenzy but I bought a nipple balm and was okay 👍
@ashleycorinaa, Oh cluster feeding is no joke!! What balm did you use ?
@leslyev92, I used the palmers cocoa butter formula nursing butter and in between feedings one side I did experience some dryness that led to cracking ( I know, ouch😫) and used coconut oil on that. Both helped right away and it was gone before I knew it
@ashleycorinaa, when the tip of the nipple gets dark that’s considered cracking ?
@leslyev92, no they get dark during pregnancy and after just from the hormones for some people. Cracked is literally they are so dry they crack and could bleed. It becomes like a cut basically
@ashleycorinaa, Gotcha, mine got dark after breastfeeding tho. And it hurts so bad 😭 my milk still hasn’t come in.
@leslyev92, mine get dark the minute I enter the third trimester and right after birth😩 They did slowly get lighter though and eventually went back to what color they originally were lol. How long has it been? By the 3rd day I kind of felt like it came in a little but the 4th day was like milk overflow! Make sure you are drinking an insane amount of water that helps so much
@ashleycorinaa, I’m on it. For the milk and also to help with healing! & I’m on day 3
@leslyev92, oh!! Then it should come in soon enough don’t even worry😊 just keep chugging water like your life depends on it. Keep a gallon next to you 😂 another thing that helps supply is oatmeal. I hated eating/making it but I will admit it worked
