I'm getting so frustrated trying to potty train my 2.5 year old. We've started potty training so many times but he just doesn't seem to get it. For 4-5 days I put him in big boy underwear and put him on the potty every 20-30 mins and that's the only time he goes in the potty is if he happens to go when I put him on it other than that he just goes in the underwear and doesn't care. And will not tell me if he has to go so I just end up putting him back in diapers and waiting a while to try again. If I could just get him to actually tell me when he needs to go he'd have it down.
@lovefaithkindness, oh yeah he gets to pick a sticker, tattoo or candy if he goes.
@kelseycraftymommy have you tried cartoons or treats? Like if he goes peepee or poops he gets something special like a few mnms
@lovefaithkindness, yeah and he lies when I ask him if he's pooping lol but he likes sitting on the potty when I ask him to( most the time) and I even have trouble getting him off it after 10-15 mins.
And that's okay because you don't want to make them terrified to go sit on the potty
I wouldn't push him. If you push them they won't want to go. If he doesn't go on his own he doesn't understand what hes supposed to do some kids take longer than others.
Make a sticker chart. Maybe when he actually goes , a few Skittles or something. After so many stickers a new hot wheel car or something.
@reinabella_xoxo, did he just get a toy if he told you he needed to go and went? Or just at all bcuz that's were I struggle when putting him on the potty every 20-30 mins if he just happens to go when I put him on there I obviously praise him but should I reward for him just happening to go when I put him on the potty? Bcuz that's the part I really need him to learn is to tell me when he has to go.
Awe I'm sorry. My twins are your sons age. They have no interest in potty training. I try daily but don't push them. They wear pull ups.
My oldest was trained at 2 1/2. My twins are the opposite. No interest.
Don't feel bad! Kids do everything st their own pace. An old friend's son was in diapers until almost 4. He just had no interest in it until then. His brother was trained by 2.5/3. Then my niece was trained by 1.5 🤷♀️ but girls are supposed to be easier.
@sarah.s, it's just so hard with family constantly asking. "He's still in diapers?" "He's not potty trained yet?" " isn't he kinda big to still be in diapers?" I don't want to push him at all but everyone around me is making it seem like I should have him potty trained already and it makes me feel like a shit mom.
I just went through this exactly! What we did was get him a potty box.... we just bought a few toys and every time he went he could pick something out. With 2 days he was officially potty trained (still wearing pull-ups at night though)
has anyone experienced a child who doesn't want to use the potty? My son fully understands the process of using the potty and knows when he has to go but he just doesn't want to use the potty. He loves diapers/pullups 😐. I have tried getting him his favorite underwear, a potty with one of his favorite characters, I've tried just sitting him on it with a book as well as reading the potty book.
I even took a suggestion from our pediatrician to just put underwear on him without anything else so th...
