At what age can I put a flat pillow into a pack and play for my 7 month old to sleep? She usually cosleeps with me with no pillow but my mattress is comfortable. The pack and play mattress isnt.
Should I wait till she’s older?

I didn't give any of my daughters a pillow until after 1 year.

@joffree., I think I did wait till a year with my son, it was so long ago I don’t remember 😫

My son has had to sleep in a pack n play since we relocated, and I just layered it up with extra blankets to make it a little softer. He's been sleeping in it since he was just over a year old.

Thanks guys! I’m trying out my friends pack n play to see how she sleeps in it, we’ll see

I also got a mattress for my daughter’s pack n play and noticed a big difference in her willingness to sleep in there afterward

My son slept in a pack and play for over a year with nothing but a quilted fitted sheet and another regular fitted sheet over that. Kids' definition of comfort is way different than ours. I coslept with him on a comfy mattress before that too. I didn't give him a pillow until he was 2, and even then he doesn't use it much. I personally wouldn't give a pillow until at least 1.

No pillows until 2, but check and make sure that your pack and play is approved for safe sleeping. One thing I learned this year which blew my mind is that most are not! Some only the bassinet part is and not the lower part, some not at all and some are. I don’t think that aftermarket mattresses are approved either.

@laniejay, totally correct my hubs bought a pack n play for our holiday and we returned it for another because shockingly it wasn’t recommended for sleeping. None of the brands we saw were compatible with a mattress. We ended up exchanging it for another and just put a thick quilt on the bottom.

@laniejay, do you know what about the pack n play makes it not safe for sleeping?
That’s crazy as so many people use them instead of cribs. I almost did but ended up bed sharing.

@beakymcspence, I was shocked. Not something I would have thought of as they are marketed towards that, but in a sketchy way. That’s why most are called “pack n plays” versus portacribs now. They bank on people just assuming and not reading the manual. I wouldn’t have purchased ours because it was a waste of $.
Beaky Mcspence·
@laniejay, Totally! My husband was extremely confused lol We took it back and purchased the more expensive one that was meant for sleep AND play. I don’t think any of the ones I’ve seen here in Canada are compatible with any sort of added mattress.
Lanie Jay·
@badwolfmomma15, they do not meet the same safety standards as cribs and bassinets. In order to be approved for safe sleep there are tests and standards to be approved. If it’s not marked with that approval, it hasn’t met the standards nor been through testing. Some are, but most aren’t.

Great now I'm gonna have to get another crib for my twin. I've been thinking of using our pack and play for one of them to sleep in. I was also going to get a tight fitting mattress for it. But now it may not even be safe for a baby to sleep in great. 😞
