It’s basically for low income family’s.. you go in take them your info.. id /proof of income and address.. then they give you checks for the food. Eggs/milk/cereal etc. they give you checks for up to 3months.. depends on when they ask you to go back.
I am. Its very simple. Every couple month you go in with the babies(here in colorado they cover the kids until age 5) they evaluate them and explain your benefits. They give you a card(used to be checks) and tell you where you can purchase your items. Every month on the first your benefits renew. They do not overlap or carryover though so make sure you actually use your benefits everymonth. Its also just a supplemental program so it will not provide what food stamps would per say. It provides like 9 cans of formula, 2 dozen eggs, milk, cheese cereal, grains, and veggies or,fruit for me every month for example.
I get it for both my little ones and myself (while pregnant and breastfeeding.) Its a nice supplemental thing. Covers your basics like milk, cheese, eggs, bread, juice, etc...we have a debit card for it here now, instead of the checks. It’s a little annoying at first until you learn which stores take it and all the specific items and weights and stuff you can and can’t buy. Some stores are really great about labeling their stuff though, which makes it easier!
WIC was a huge blessing to us when we had to switch to formula and also for baby food it was great. Also, we get like $27/month in fruits and veggies, so that’s great!!!
Here in Tennessee it's still the checks. I don't qualify this time around but when we hit a rough patch with my first it was super helpful, I am gonna miss the extra help. Goes a long way!!
