Can someone explain how section 8 works and how to go about getting on a waiting list . I didn’t know there were vouchers. I had no idea you can live in a section 8 house?!! Someone fill me in. Needing to leave this relationship but just have no where to go

You have to wait until the list is open, if it's closed, and apply. Even then you may not be added (varies by state). I know in my state, Minnesota, they do a random lottery. Then you have to wait for your name to come up and a voucher to become available before finding a place. Some states may have assisted housing a part of, but separate from, section 8 that stays to the specified apartment.
Here in Michigan you just have to go into your local office and fill out the paperwork. Once you are approved, you can find a house or a apartment that takes S8 and then just wait for them to approve you to move in. I used it before and it was so easy.
