any mamas out there that are or have taught their child sign language, i personally knew nothing about sign language prior to having my daughter and when the daycare brought it to my attention that it is something that they teach the kids i just kept up with it and shes picking up on it so well and so quickly
My best friend @flowermama9 did! And I hope she will help me in teaching my babe when he is born!
Both my babies learned sign language first just basic signs like milk, book, more, water, food or hungry, play, help, thank you, to me it was really important to teach them more than one way to communicate because some kids can’t talk until after they are 1 and my kids signed milk before they could ask for it so i loved it.
@johnell, i think it should be taught too, i think its being taught alot more now (in my area) but i remember being in high school and wanting to learn so bad
I’m deaf and fluent in sign language it’s a beautiful language and babies develop communication before they can talk
@damnkmar20
I didn't know it either.. but because of the signing time videos my daughter, nephew and myself have at least a 200 sign vocabulary..
I know sign language i actually learned because i worked at a grocery store for 4 years and one of the customers were deaf (small town mom and pop store so knew everyone who walked in the door) i was the only cashier to learn it and the customer was so excited about it and only came to my line, it was really cute sweet, so i def plan to teach my child it and really happy that to hear your daycare teaches it♡ that's really nice!!!
@damnkmar20, most people don’t know how to sign since it’s not taught. I deff think it should be taught in school! Just make sure you talk when you teach her how to sign every time that way she catches on and soon she’ll be on her way to talking your ear off. At least that’s how my son was. Now he doesn’t stop 😔 lol
@johnell, im googling the sign too i kinda felt bad at first because i didnt know sign before hand but its nice learning with my baby
We're doing it and have since my son was 1. He has a speech delay as well and signing has been super helpful in preventing meltdowns bc he can tell us what he wants.
I taught my son simple things and it made life so much easier !!! He was less frustrated and so was I. It’s so amazing how quickly they pick it up too ! When I wanted to teach him something I just googled the sign.
@laywatz, thats so neat i do the best i can because i didnt know sign before hand
I did...
My daughter has a speech delay and sign language really jump started her ability to communicate.
If you're interested there's a great DVD series called Signing Time.
You can buy it on Amazon. My daughter and autistic nephew LOVE these videos. They sing and sign along to all the songs.
I want too because my mother is 100% deaf
