Did anyone have a family member who did not want to know the gender of your baby? My mother is adamant to not know the gender, but I'm really mad because I won't be able to have anything pink really at the baby shower.. and i don't want all gray/green/yellow only things for gifts and clothes. Any advice on how to handle this? 😓😩😤

Maybe have the baby shower after the baby is born that way you can still have pink things and it won't ruin the surprise for her. Or maybe have 2 separate events if you want to have the baby shower before baby comes.

Throw a diaper shower and your mom could come and you could decorate gender neutral. and throw a baby shower for everyone else to come to and you could get gifts for the baby girl.

It's cool to want to respect your mother's wishes but at the end of the day, it's YOUR shower and YOUR baby. You should do what you want. She'd just have to deal with it.

Um this is weird it’s not about her

Celebrate how you want. If she doesn’t want to know the gender of a baby she can go get pregnant 😂

@phoebesmommy thats what my husband said too! Its pretty darn selfish.. but she's hosting it 🙄

@swedishmomma, ask someone else to host it and let her know how important it is to you.

You need to have a serious talk with her. Yes it’s just decor but if she is throwing a party for you, the party isn’t about her. Just tell her that it’s your preference to celebrate the gender of your baby and you won’t be keeping it a secret for her

I’d tell her if she doesn’t want to know the gender she prob shouldn’t come to the shower 🤷♀️ your baby not hers..

I just saw that she’s hosting it. Maybe just “accidentally” tell her the gender and then there’s no reason to have a gender neutral shower

@tacos4lyfe i like the way you think hahaha

Just accidentally start using the female pronouns around your mother.

Tell her you don’t want a gender neutral shower and if she’s determined not to know then you’re so sad you’ll have to ask someone else to host it and you hate the idea of her missing it.
If she fusses, tell her it seems unfair that you can’t register for the color items you want just to protect her for a couple months.

That sucks. She probably doesn’t really mean to but it is a little selfish of her to expect you to keep the gender secret FOR HER. Just explain to her that this is a very special time for you and it’s not fair to put that amount of pressure on you. Especially if it’s your first so maybe tell her that you’ll consider allowing a future pregnancy to be a surprise 🤷🏼♀️ idk?! Sorry to not be much help this sounds like an unfortunate situation to be in.
