My son has had a flat head since 2 months old. Everytime he goes to the doctor I ask about it and she always says ‘do tummy time, prop him up, sit him up more’. He is now 8 months old and since 4 months has been always propped up. Should i get a second opinion because to me, his head is pretty darn flat

I would get another opinion immediately. The longer you wait for a helmet, the less likely it’ll work well.

They’ll have to refer you to a specialist. Then wait for insurance approval (my sons helmet was $4k) Then you’ll have the appt where they put a panty hose looking thing on his head and do scans, to get the exact measurements. Then wait for the helmet to come in.

It’s a “long” process. And like I said, the longer you wait to start, the less likely it’ll work for him.

It’s not just about a flat head. It can cause facial deformation and hearing problems, depending on how bad his actually is. I’d definitely get another opinion.

Please click the menu icon and read all about the condition, how it’s diagnosed and treatment. I’m very surprised the ped ignored this for so long.

Your baby’s head is very flat. He should have been in a helmet months ago. The skull bones start fusing around 6 months. The longer you wait, the longer he will have to wear the helmet. You don’t need a referral to a neuro doc. They can’t do anything for you. This is the place I took my first son, not sure it’s it’s near you. If it’s not, they may be able to refer you to someone closer. I didn’t need a referral from the ped.

I wish my doctor wasn’t so lazy. I mean if she didn’t think he needed a helmet maybe he could have been doing physical therapy

Absolutely get a second opinion ASAP. The longer you wait, you run the risk of the skull bones fusing and it needing to be corrected surgically or not all leading to hearing/vision loss and facial deformation, as @redheadedmonster, said earlier.

I would definitely get a 2nd opinion! Eliana’s doctor just referred her for a helmet yesterday..

Mine said the same, but my mommy radar kept going off. I went to three different doctors before finally getting scans and seeing that he did in fact need a helmet to round it out. You are around him the most so you know your baby. Good luck momma

Ask your doctor for a referral to neurosurgery. They will be able to give you suggestions to try before suggesting a next step.

If you genuinely worry about his motor skills and flat head, I would recommend the physical therapy. You can talk to his doctor about it (or a different doctor) so they can give a recommendation form to a pt center near you to help him out!

My son had a flat head too like this and we got referred to a specialist to get a helmet, but it also did correct itself overtime without it.

@pierced_momma, yeah my son likes to sleep on his back always has but now he at least moves his head side to side. He is lacking behind in his motor skills. He can sit up but not as well as he should. He hates tummy time and refuses to try and crawl. He doesn’t move around as much unless he is in his jumper. But at least he isn’t laying on his back lol because when he was a newborn he always was because he was always asleep. I know now I should have moved his positions

My son has had flat head syndrome since he was 2 months old. Hes now 15 months old. He was in physical therapy from 4-10 months old. I got a second opinion on it, but they said it wasn't severe so he wouldn't need a helmet. He's very active and doesn't even sleep on his back anymore, he'll roll over. He never needed the helmet even though I thought he did. You can get a second opinion, and even physical therapy if you think he'll need it. In my case, I just had to wait it out for it to reshapen itself since he's too active for me to worry about it lol

My baby boy had a flat head & he’s going to be 1 next month. You can still tell it was flat but it’s rounding out with time. Yeah They suggested we do a CTScan & MRI to be on the safe side.. everything was/is normal. He’ll grow out of it.

Super pissed yall cuz ever since he was 2 months old I’ve asked the doctor how we can fix his flat head and up until the age of 8 months our answer was ‘tummy time’ which we did. But here he is almost 9 months and I took him to a different pediatrician and she tells me a helmet won’t fix his head and he will most likely he will need surgery. I’m upset, frustrated, scared, and sad. I don’t understand why nobody did anything for him when I asked a million times and now it’s too late

At What Age Should a Child Make Their Own Breakfast?

Make your own breakfast! At what age do you think a child should be making their own breakfast? I have a 10 year old and I think he is perfectly capable of making himself breakfast. It doesn't take rocket science to put some waffles into the toaster, or microwave some pancakes. My husband insists that he needs to have breakfast made for him because if we left it up to him he wouldn't eat enough and it would take him forever.
