GBS is Strep B

GD is Gestational Diabetes

With GBS nothing while pregnant but will require two doses of antibiotics during labour. I also planned on waiting as long as possible at home when I go into labour which is not possible now as the first dose needs to be ASAP followed by one 4 hours later, we will also have to stay 48 hours at the hospital after delivery for observation...

With GD the risk factor is bigger babies, planned c-sections. With gestational diabetes like other diabetes GD effects the way your body uses its glucose. Which means diet would be the most sufficient way to control your blood sugar levels. Your sugar levels would be checked often. Your last three months doc will monitor you and baby closer. Your sugar levels will be checked after birth and then again 6 weeks later to ensure your back to yourself.

Just out curiosity what changes do you have to make when your diagnosed with GBS? Do you have to take insulin until it goes away? I'm waiting on my glucose results and I'm very nervous also.

@meghanldk, it is reassuring because that’s my worry...the early onset and the late onset. Not being able to get both doses...thanks for your comment :)

I did and I felt the same way but honestly it really is not a big deal.

I did too. I had the same feelings you did. Although it’s hard not to worry and have those feelings, just try to stay positive. It helped me knowing that the statistics for passing it along to your baby is very low if you are getting penicillin through the IV it’s an even less chance of transferring it to your baby. It also helped me knowing that everyone has it in their system, men, women, children etc.. it’s not something that’s just in us and it’s not an STI or something.

To reassure you, I got the first dose of penicillin and you’re suppose to get the second dose after 4 hours and my labour was so quick I didn’t even get the second dose and everything was fine my son didn’t develop any systems. I understand everyone is different but it’s rare try not to stress
