I think Internet in general can be damaging. We got rid of our Internet entirely when we realized we were spending more time on our phones, Kindles, Netflix, etc. than spending that time bonding with each other. We take an hour at the end of each day now to be completely phone-free and just watch a show or play a board game or talk and have a drink together.

Social media hasn't always been here. I refused to be concerned about what my dude may or may not be doing on Fb or IG when he has a whole world in front of him of women to be inappropriate with. I am more concerned about the women at work, at the gym, at the grocery store etc etc. Social media doesn't ruin relationships. It is the irresponsible people using it that do. If I cant trust you then that is a whole other issue in itself.

It definitely can. Romantic relationships and friendships. Even family.

Depends on your partner! Do they take the bait, do they give in temptation or is he loyal and trustworthy?

@pamelawife134 In today's world social media is everywhere! If the 2ppl are committed and want it to work then something like social media won't come between. It's ppl who ruin relationships.

I’m sure it can. My husband and I decided 6.5 years ago when we got married that we would go completely off the grid as far as social media and all that goes. It just wasn’t benefitting our lives so why waste time on something we didn’t even enjoy? Neither one of us has looked back. :)

@bthaqueen but what about people that hide behind screens and do things that they wouldn't necessarily do in real life?

@pamelawife134, taking something the wrong way, jealousy or resentment over a perceived "perfect life", seeing someone acting foolishly, an argument over a stupid post, catching someone in a lie, not respecting boundaries, not keeping a trust, of course political or religious differences, not approving of the way someone acts online.

@jacqueline.garth so is your reason yes because it takes your time and attention away from each other? Also, isn't this a form of social media?

Meaning what??? No matter what it is social media didn't cause it. Fb doesn't make you cheat and lie, Instagram didn't drive you to someone else's house or make you give another person your number or keeps a secret identity. It was a choice you made on your own as an individual. I choose to have social media and be responsible. If I get something out of hand i check it. That is how I do things.

Yes I do! My husband and I had Facebook and it caused us problems. So, we both got rid of it. And now I have this app and he has Reddit. And these still cause us problems. Plus I have Instagram and he don't like it. So, yes I think it puts strain on relationships! And its happened to me in previous relationships too.

If you can not trust your spouse on social media then you have trust issues that aren't associated with social media you need to get help with in general. If you have an addiction that is different as well.

I think it could but, ultimately it depends on the couple. I don't have a FB he does. I have IG he doesn't. We also dont have Passwords on our phone.

@pamelawife134, I don’t consider this the type of social media I want to stay away from. The reason we were uncomfortable with Facebook and the like was because we knew people on there in real life and I found myself “stalking” their pages and being jealous over them or their lives rather than just living mine. And my husband became addicted to some of the games on Facebook. I don’t know anyone on here outside the app and I hope this is a place I can go for support. Unlike some other sites. And I never said yes. I said I’m sure it can. It didn’t happen to me and hasn’t to anyone I personally know. But anything can ruin or strain relationships. So why not social media?
