upcoming surgery
My son has his surgery on Tuesday. I'm really stressed about it and so scared. I wish there was a way I could explain this to him but he's only 2 and he wouldn't understand. And if I tried it would probably scare him more then help him. The surgery is about 8 hours or so and there's a good chance he needs a blood transfusion during it and that scares me more.

I would explain/narrate in advance what's going to happen. He'll understand some and it'll give you a chance to put a positive spin on it.
Richard Scarry's What do people do all day has a "chapter" on a bunny who gets her tonsils out. It's short, but shows her getting into a hospital gown, medical staff wearing masks, anesthesia... Might be a good starting point.
Sorry you both have to go through this!

My daughter has a surgery coming up to (dental though, nothing serious). I was informed that the hospital had a "surgery safari" for kids to help them feel more comfortable. I think it's important to explain a lot. He will understand many aspects of it. I know you're very busy with the twins but I would try to walk him through it verbally as much as possible. Good luck!

They gave us a book and it's about a girl telling her story about needing surgery in the hospital so I've been reading that to him.

Prayers for your little boy and for you as well! May I ask, what surgery is this for? Sorry you are going through this, I cannot imagine how stressful it is, but i do pray all will go perfectly well.

He is having his skull reconstructed. It's not growing how it should be.

A close family friend had a daughter who's skull stopped developing in utero. She has had several surgeries to expand and reconstruct it as she grows. She's 7 now and is just the sweetest thing, I think it's more traumatizing for her parents than it is for her. Praying everything goes smoothly today and your son recovers quickly!

Hope everything goes well for you today!
Praying for you as well, I'm sure it's such a scary thing for both of you.

I will be praying for your little boy. Try not to worry too much (I know that's a stupid thing to say!) but surgeons do these operations and blood transfusions everyday. I am sure he will be right as rain before you know it x
