delivery question

I still have 3 to 4 months till I have my twins but I have no idea what I should do with my son while we r in the hospital. He won't be 2 yet and he's never been away from us at night and has maybe been away from both of us at the same time maybe 10 times. And I'm a sahm now. I will most likely have a scheduled csection. People say I should leave him with someone at their house but I'm worried if he's away from both of us and not at home he will be scared. So would it be better if my mom spends the couple days at my house with him and my husband come home every night to put him to bed? Or should I just have my husband stay home with him and me stay at the hospital with the twins?

He can't stay with my mom because she doesn't have anywhere for him to sleep. He could stay with my sister and she has 3 kids so it would be great but her and her husband argue alot and my son isn't around that. We still have some time to decide what we r going to do

This was my biggest fear when I got pregnant. Dd had never stayed overnight and had only been babysat by my mom for a few hours at a time on 3 diff occasions. About 3 wks before my due date we let her stay overnight at my moms one night to try it out. And she did great. I was still nursing but had night weaned. I thought when I had the baby it would b easier on dd to stay at our house with my mom but since we had to leave so early for the hospital we took her to my moms the night before my scheduled c-section to spend the night. And then since she did so good at my moms they just stayed there the whole time which ended up being 4 nights. She had so much fun with my mom and was happy every time we talked to her on the phone so they made me feel alot better. Gl and I def recommend doing a trial run. And hear my mom tell it Scout acted like an angle the whole time and even let my mom French braid her hair. She won't even me brush her hair.

The hospital is 10 minutes from my house and at night it would probably be 6 minutes.

And my son hasn't been left alone with just my husband at night either so I'm not sure how he will do for my mom.

This is exactly my fear and biggest concern now. I think I will probably just have my husband come home at nights and either be by myself or have my mom stay with me at the hospital. Ours is close too so it won't be a huge problem. But ds is not even accustomed to dh at nights so even that's a big leap for us

I have some of the same questions. I'm delivering sometime in the next two weeks and my 19 month old son has never done dinner/bedtime with anyone but me and my husband.

He sleeps through the night and the hospital is 10 minutes from home so our current plan is for my mother to stay with him while we're in the hospital but my husband will go back and forth.

My husband will slip home for dinner/bedtime. We've opted for a doula this time (trying to increase chances of a VBAC) so she can stay with me if I'm in labour and my mom/sisters can stay with me after birth in the hospital if my husband needs to leave.

Ideally I'd have my husband with me throughout, I need his support and he'd like to be with the baby and I, but we'll both be more comfortable if we're not worrying about how my 19 month old is doing.

Still, you know what they say about the best laid plans! We'll see how things go and roll with it.

If your twins end up having to go to the nicu it will be very easy for your husband to go between home and the hospital. When my daughter was in the nicu they kept her on a very strict schedule. If they don't need any nicu time (hopefully they won't!) it may be a bit more challenging :/

Yes we have family that could help. Both our parents could.

I worried about this for my whole pregnancy. And it ended up being my worst case scenario. I was away for 6 days, 5 nights. (I went into labor, then stalled at 6cm for 3 days with contractions about 8-10 minutes apart. Fun times!) My dd was with my mil and fil at a hotel since the hospital was almost an hour away. During the day was fine. The first night was the hardest for her but I didn't know this until I got out of the hospital. It took 4 months for her to sttn again. There was nothing I could have done if I had known and it might have made my labor even longer but it killed me knowing she had such a hard time. I only had one but I would have been fine with my dh leaving for the night. He wanted to stay. We were actually going to have my dd stay with us at the hospital but then after not sleeping for 4 days, we were so exhausted. Plus my in laws hadn't told me that my dd was having a hard time yet. I have already decided #3 will be a home birth so I don't have to deal with any hospital drama but if I was in a hospital again, I'd tell dh to go home. Do you have anyone who could stay with you at the hospital to lend a hand if dh went home?

Thanks ladies. I'm sure when the time get closer I'll have something figured out. But the thing is nobody in my family does the things I do with my son. They all think I baby him and I need to let him cry more. Which makes me sad

My ds was 25 months when I went into labor with dd. When I felt it staying I called my parents and they came up. Then while at the hospital my in laws showed up. Between the 4 of them they watched rudder the entire time and he fell asleep on my dad. They all got to see the new baby that way. Once I was in my own room dh took ryder home to sleep. We we worried about him waking other women since he was still waking up and crying for me. We did the same thing the next night too.

It was actually kind of nice because I got some bonding time with dd and didn't have to worry about either kid waking each other up. Then when ppl would visit I got some better rest. I'm not sure how different it will be with a section. I stopped stressing over it about 2 months before and just figured we'd figure it out when the time came. :)

I left my 22 month old ds overnight with my mom for the first time when I was in labor (and headed to the hospital) with my dd. I was super worried about it, but it went so well and my ds slept through the night for my mom and seemed totally fine with the whole situation. That was more than 2 years ago now and my ds now LOVES staying overnight with my parents, in fact begs to. I was raised ap, so him and my dd being with them isn't a problem for me.

I'm thinking of having my mom stay the night with him but my husband come home for dinner and bedtime and then when he falls asleep him come back. He sleeps threw the night and has for awhile now. And have my husband be there in the morning when he wakes up. I don't know if my husband wants to leave me there alone at night since there's 2 babies and I'll need help. I'll have to talk to my mom about it too. My sister wants to keep him over night at her house but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that I feel like he needs to be home

I'm having a scheduled C-section in less than 2 weeks. DD is 26 months and has never been left overnight. The plan is to have DH go home with her for naps/night as I think I will have plenty of help from nurses. We'll see how it goes. Might be trickier with twins, though.

My daughter will just be over 2 and we will either do a birth center or home birth so it will mostly just be while I'm in labor that we're gone but I'm still stressing out! We're slowly working on leaving her for longer stretches at a time but still not overnight as she still nurses at night. I don't have much advice except to maybe do a test run and then just play it by ear? Hope it goes smoothly for you!

My FIL is coming into town over a week before my due date so I'm hoping to get him used to being with him at night. We've never left him over night either. The hospital is just a few minutes away, so my husband can zip back and forth as needed--after the delivery of course. Not sure how it will go but we'll have to figure it out!

Can you try a date night and let him stay with whomever might keep him during the hospital stay? Plan to leave him overnight, but be available to go get him if he's not comfortable. He might surprise you.

Having him stay with someone would be the optimal situation IMO. With a csec and twins I would really want my husband with me.
