anybody else late to the party?
here i am 10 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my 4th child and I have yet to pick a doctor or start prenatal visits...we found out in June that we were expecting but we were already in the process of finding a new home. We found a house we wanted in late June but the new home is about an hour away from where we live now...we've been waiting all month for inspections to clear us to move (just passed inspection tuesday) and here I am now in my current predicament...i really want to just choose a doctor but I feel like I should wait until we are in our permanent living area to avoid the long travels to the doctor on this side of town. As a mother of three already I feel anxious and I'm always worried...am I the only one who has yet to receive care...i have been cramping alot for the last two days off and on. Should i just find a doctor now or wait the additional one to two weeks I could have left before actually completing my move? Don't want to be deemed a bad mom, just don't know what to do.

@lalaT0418 omgee i would be so frustrated...that's only a few weeks out from finding out the gender right?! i'm glad you got everything figured out!! ?
Literally same story minus the house but I did move apts which has been HELL!! I'm on my 4th baby, found out in June.. haven't scheduled an appt but I did call a couple days ago.. only there system was down so I was told to call back in 2 hours. I never called back ??♀️ I'm going with a midwife this time so I'm pretty excited but first appts usually aren't until 12w so we're somewhat good. Lol
I live in the uk and we don't see anyone before 8 weeks, even then it's a midwife appointment to fill out paperwork, no scans or anything. Hormone levels are never measured, there are no blood tests beyond things like checking for anemea. You get two scans, 12 weeks to confirm dates and 20 weeks anatomy scan. If you want to find out the gender the only chance is at the 20 week scan (if baby is the right way round) Other than the scans you only see midwives, never a doctor. Unless you are high risk or there's a problem, then they do more.
I'm saying this to illustrate what's actually needed. It's not that much! In a culture where insurance pays for health care and doctors get paid for each thing they do it's common to get a lot of scans, tests etc. Not because they are medically needed but because mums like them and doctors like getting paid for them. I'm 12 +3 and waiting for my first scan, at 10 weeks you're fine!
I'm 13w2d and haven't seen a Dr yet. Not by choice but bc the office I chose only does new patients 1st appt on Tuesdays and I couldn't ever get off on Tuesdays!! Finally, I just had to call and be like, email/fax/mail me whatever I need to fill out as new pt bc i would t ever be able to make a Tuesday appt. I almost thought I'd have to find somewhere else but we got it straight. But since I didn't get in before 10wks for ultrasound, I have to wait to even be seen until I'm 16weeks! My very first appt is August 28th. Sheesh.
@XannieWithALittleBean lol...i love the way you put it... "i did what i do best" lol...tickled me...ok cool well I'm at ease now...during my second pregnancy my dr gave me such a hard time about coming in so late...i was 9 weeks when i found out I was preggo...so since then I had assumed it was bad to go after you were too far along...but I'm guessing not now...
It really should be.. Im having the same Dr. As with my first daughter.. So i know his routine.. Ultrasound during the first trimester to make sure the baby is viable and to confirm due date.. Then i wouldnt get another scan until 20 weeks.. So since i had already had all of this done.. I did what i do best and procrastinated lol..
@XannieWithALittleBean i hope its smooth sailing for me once I choose a doctor...hopefully my first appointment will include a sonogram...I'm curious to see if the due date changes....
@Mrs Mayfield I feel better now...I figure by the time I get settled I'll be 13 or 14 weeks out...
@annacooper22 omgee why yes of course...due date buddies we shall be lol...i'm secretly hoping baby chooses to come a little early....my 3rd baby was born february 25th kinda hoping she won't have to share a birthday season lol...
@bubblesmama1982 my sister and I used the same doctor years ago when we were having our first sets of babies so i used the same dr for all three of my kids...this is a new marriage and i wanted to give my guy a freshstart w/ me so that is also why I decided to wait so long...switching doctors leaves me anxious a little as well....finding one I trust will be a challenge...i know how you must feel...
thank you ladies! I feel a little better knowing I haven't really missed anything crucial...I have been taking prenatal vitamins since the TTC phase...i stopped maybe two weeks ago because they started making me vomit after I'd take them...I will try to start back!
My first appointment wasn't until 12 weeks, and they also just listened to the heartbeat and drew blood, took my blood pressure, etc. If it would put your mind at ease you could always look into a local clinic. If you're in the US, planned parenthood does prenatal care. That way you don't have to go through the trouble of finding a doctor twice.
@teamCara the more responses I get the happier I become...now I'm just ready to finish moving and find a dr...whenever it is they see me I just hope its soon...?
