Fussy eating toddler

I have an 18 month old and for the last 3 days he has been really fussy with his food. He does have his molars coming through at the moment and he had a slight temperature yesterday morning which I thought may have been the reason but I realised in the afternoon that he is happy to eat but just what he wants to. He happily ate half a punnet of blueberries and a tub of yoghurt after he refused his vegie pasta for lunch and he also eats his banana and weetbix in the morning.

So his only wanting fruit and yogurt you say? Would he eat other food if you say he can have fruit and yogurt after? Get fruit cut up and yogurt there, show him and say only after you have your ......... Or else mummy will eat it.he might chuck a bit of a tanty but hey they can't always get their way. My mum also bribed my brother by having his fav food in a little bowl and then his proper meal in another. She would say if you want custard then you have to have semolina too. So one spoon custard one spoon semolina. It's a bit time consuming but he will at least eat and not wake up hungry And not get use to having his way cus in the end he still had to have what was given .

You could of been writing about my 19 month old just then!!! I don't want DS getting used to being offered 10 different things for dinner but at the same time I don't want him waking up in the middle of the night cause he's hungry! Last night he had pork, vegies and potato on his plate and he only ate the potato. Then my dad put some cheese on his plate and he ate that then some yoghurt.

I'll definitely be coming back for more ideas and opinions on this post!

We are the same in daycare. We can't be offering 10 different foods for each child so they have to at least try it before saying no otherwise no sweets or bread. They always try it. Even in my babies room they all tried their food because they all wanted yoghurt, it's the favourite "sweets" for all rooms. Not natural yoghurt either that's why they want it.

I watched Jo Frost last night & she said if ur kid starts 2 become fussy eaters u limit what is offered and give them a choice..

I guess he is going for them because they are cold and soft. I wouldn't stress to much while he is teething.

Thanks ladies, he has always been given a massive variety of foods and he did go through a big fussy phase at around 12 months where he would only eat pasta but I was able to give him different healthy sauces on it so it was easy. This time around it seems he just wants fruit and yoghurt.. I may just keep offering him the meal I prepare and then if he refuses give in and give him the fruit or yoghurt. it's so frustrating!!!

I find that kids would rather be hungry then eat boring stuff lol. I would accommodate to his preferences as this us positive reinforcement that he gets something else to eat if he doesn't like what's given to him. However if he us teething it could b just that it's uncomfortable for him right now. I'd try some cold soothing foods like cucumber, watermelon etc. The blueberries went down well. Mayb soup? Or I know it's a bit cold today ( in Vic anyway) but you could freeze fruit in some juice in ice trays and have him sooth his gums while taking in some fruit. Or what worked with my little brother was making his food into a happy face shape. Usually kids like to eat interesting pretty colored things. Good luck

I have a 19 month old and he is going through the same thing and I think so long as it is healthy I won't change it. But he doesn't get a choice about dinner or breakfast but he chooses what he wants to eat during the day. I offer him all different food as I don't want to have a child on my hands that won't eat this or that just a few things. But that is just me
