Considering Hospice Nursing

Anyone work as a nurse in Hospice in this group? How does it affect life with two kids? I'm contemplating a job change but I want to make sure it is something I can reasonably manage. My husband works a lot so I deal with most of the child raising and want a job that will not conflict with being a mommy. What are the hours like? I work as a skilled nurse for medically fragile/medically complex in the home setting so I've seen a lot.

I've worked as a hospice nurse for the last 11 years~~ started it when my kids started school so I could be with them more. Our organization I work 830 to 5 Monday through Friday. It's flexible if I need to take them to a doctor appointment etc as I make up my own schedule. Just have to make sure all my patients are seen in the week. Best decision for me and my family!

Hi, I'm a hospice clinical manager but I was a Case manager when my twins were smaller. It's a typical 8-5 job but you have the capability to see your patients on your schedule and can finish the rest of the day at home. Depending on your agency, they may have runner nurses to do PRN visits or you may need to get up and do them yourself. But typically you stay available for calls from your patients til 5. I'm considering stepping down to a RNCM position or transitioning to home health after I have my son to have more flexible hours than in management.
