Breastfeeding

I gave birth on Monday and my breastmilk STILL has not come in. I've alternated between pump and baby around the clock. Her latch is still difficult and i have no clue if she is getting what she needs. When I pump I get like 10 ml. When is this milk going to get here? I'm afraid she is losing too much weight and the pediatrician doesn't open until Monday.

I had this issue. I would bf for 20 minutes or until she unlatched. If she was still rooting I'd give her a small amount of formula. I couldn't pump ANYTHING out while I was in hospital, so I was worried. Milk finally came in (in a BIG way) on day 4. Just don't give up! A bit of formula won't hurt anything, and may give you piece of mind. Mine hasn't had any in a week and a half now. Good luck!

Latch as often as possible. It can take up to a week for first time breastfeed moms!

Can you call La Leche League or the hospital's lactation consultant? LLL will come to your house free of charge. The colostrum is such small amounts that it's amazing you're even seeing any while pumping. (I'm not positive, but I think you'd have to set the pump on a really high/strong setting in order for it to simulate baby & stimulate milk production at this early stage.) Have baby suck as often as possible. Watch videos online to compare her latch. Hang in there, your milk will likely arrive very soon!

Yes but I don't want her to get lazy so I rarely do it. She is a VERY lazy baby ?

Did u try expressing the colostrum manually? For me it hurt less than baby's latch and the pump, it also helps your breasts adapt

Also this is my second baby. I gave up the first time around and I feel terrible about it.
