gestational diabetes?

So my OB is running an early diabetes screen on me at 12 weeks (I'm 8 weeks today) because my mother is a type 2 diabetic. If all goes well I'll be tested again at the usual 28 weeks. Any ladies going through this, or did anyone have gestational diabetes during a former pregnancy? I'm pretty healthy and not overweight, I'm just a worried FTM looking for insight :)

I developed gestational diabetes with my son at 35 weeks was able to control it with diet. He was born at 38 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. I found out I was pregnant in Dec 2012 and was given then glucose test at the first visit and failed it so I had to go back on a diabetic diet but sadly I lost the baby at 13 weeks baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. Miscarriage was due to low progesterone. I am now 7 weeks and I'm already on 7 units of insulin in the morning and 3 units at night. I'm scared to to death.

I had gestational diabetes w my daughter. I passed the 12 wk scan but failed the one at 28 wks. Mine was diet controlled and actually I ended up losing 12 lbs that I had put on so it was ok.

I had GD with my second. It was diagnosed at the 28 week check. It was easily controlled with diet. I just had to check my blood sugar a few times a day. I have to be checked at 16 weeks too this time since I have a history.

I had no issues and he's now a healthy 10 year old! :) I was induced at 39 weeks with him because they thought he was going to be over 10lbs, but he was only 7lb 14oz? lol

Same thing. I failed the one hour because I was told not to fast. Then passed the three hour. Then tested again at 28 weeks and again was told not to fast and failed the one hour but passed the three hour. So no gd in my last pregnancy. I have one good vein that was used for all those pokes. Never again! The whole time my dr was saying we'll need to Induce because of this non existent problem. And even after they came back normal, pushed for Induction because of my "big" baby. 7#, 1oz and 20.25 Inches. Huuuuge, right? Fast before your one hour.

That said, gd is not based on your weight or family history. I've known very overweight women not to have it and super health conscious, fit women to have it.

@Tweetgirl you poor thing! I'm so sorry you're going through this, I wish you nothing but the best! Are you a diabetic or is it GD?

Thanks ladies, I'm glad it's at least easily controlled! The receptionist told me to have a small breakfast before I drink that stuff, but when I go for my genetic screens next week I'll confirm with the phlebotomist.

I had it with my son and no matter what I did I couldn't control it with diet and exercise. I was on both types of insulin and taking 6 shots a day. I did end up losing like 17lbs though.

I had it with my son. I will do the one hour at my next visit on the 10th and if I pass I will be tested again at 28 weeks. I ended up in one shot of insulin before bed every night. I'd love to avoid that this time.

You are all lucky if you do not have diabetes. I am a type one diabetic. I was told I go to a hole new level of being a diabetic. At less I have a new doctor and he will do better then my last doctor I had.
