Recovery was very hard for my 6 year old if I'm being honest with you. He cried a lot due to pain and refused anything cold. It was not a pleasant experience for us.

My now 12 year old had hers out at 2 years. It was a very quick, like 30 min surgery. She was in recovery pretty quickly and able to nurse fairly fast. She did not vomit on the way home, can be common due to swallowing blood. The first day we just kept up on her pain meds and nursed. I tried to get her to eat popsicles but she was t really having it. She had apnea and was having some concern over her heart enlarging. Those resolved after the surgery. She does still have ear infections which is what began this issue, but many less than pre surgery.

I had mine out 5 yrs ago when I was 26 & it was absolute hell. My mother said the dr recommended that I have mine out around age 5-7 & she said she kept putting it off saying if she gets strep or tonsillitis one more time I'll do it. Needless to say that one more time happened quite a few times but never had the surgery until I was an adult. From personal experience having them out as adult I vote get them out while she's young

My son had his removed due to strep when he was 2..had to stay over night but recovery went well!!! It's been a few months since and he's had strep once since!

My daughter had hers done right before she turned 6. The first week can be rough with the pain. Will developed sores and when they come off it will cause some pain again but overall it's not to bad. Just keep your little one hydrated. Good luck!!

I had mine taken out when I was 7. After so many sore throats, one more from the surgery isn't so bad. Plus as a kid, all the Popsicles and jello for dinner was the best (except red flavors are my favorite and I couldn't have red). Plus my parents got me balloons and the puppy surprise I'd been begging for for months. And I got to just lay around and watch tv and ring my bell for service like a princess lol

I don't have personal child experience with it but I do work in the OR and it's such a quick surgery and IMO worth it! Better now than later.

I tried to talk to her about it today and tried to make it seem like it was super cool because I don't have mine either. I'm not sure she's sold in the idea but this is her 8th time with strep since December. ?

I was 6 when it happened to me. I still got sick but I have an autoimmunity disorder.

My son goes 11-2 to have his tonsils, adenoids removed and tubes placed in his ears. He is 3.6yrs. He will have to stay one overnight. I hear the recovery sucks but it's worth it.

My two have had theirs out my dd was 7 and got frequent strep and missed a ton of school since you have to be on antibiotics for 24 hrs before returning to school per the school policy.

She had some post op pain and hasnt had any more issues with strep. Shes 10 now.

My son was 18 months when his came out he was having huge sleep apnea issues because of them blocking his breathing he stayed over one night in the hospital and went home he was great on Tylenol and motrin alternating

My son had his out at 3 years old last November. And his adenoids. His was for sleep apnea. But he was always sick also. He's a completely different kid now! So good and not sick at all. Our children's hospital requires an overnight stay, but he was playing in the play area 4 hrs after surgery. It didn't bother him at all.

They say it's better when they are younger because they heal faster. I had mine out at 13 and it was pure hell. My bil was 2 and my mil says he recovered in like 3 days. Said the 2nd day he asked for chicken ? lol

I had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was 8. I remember constantly being sick more than I remember the surgery. Stock up on popsicles and ice cream! My dad said that's all I ate for about a week ? I hope your LO gets to feelin better!

My daughter may be getting hers removed. They've been swollen since August. We have tried steroids. I saw an ENT who wants to wait til December or January to do anything. Her paediatrician wants to try an allergy medicine for a month and go from there. She tested negative for strep.

It'll be better to go ahead and remove them and get rid of the problem over her constantly having a problem.

My poor babies are very swollen. She struggles to eat and sleep now. So if surgery is what we need to do to make her better we are going to do it.

I had mine out when I was 8. The Doctors were so sweet to me. They let me take a doll with me into the operating room. I know now that they took her away after I was put under but at the time I told everyone my doll got her tonsils out too. The one problem I could see with having them out that at 5 is when I was healing it got too painful to talk so I had to write things down but at 5 kids can't write a lot yet. That could get frustrating. It was a bit scary but it was so nice not being sick all the time afterwards. I missed a lot of school before I got them taken out.

My 4 year old son had his tonsils and adenoids taken out last Tuesday. Recovery has been hard for him, lots of pain and not wanting to drink or eat. However he also had tubes put in his ears at the same time so that is causing most of the pain. The only pain mess he got were Tylenol and ibuprofen every three hours.

My 5 year old had his out in July. It was a super quick surgery, and the hardest thing was keeping him in bed to rest. Also if you do go through with it ask your pharmacy to flavor the pain meds. Ours didn't and I ended up having to take a trip at 3 am to get it flavored. It is a very bitter tasting syrup. If you have any other questions I'm always here!

My ds had his taken out at 5.5 years old. He had strep 6 times in 5 months so it was time. Surgery went well, recovery took a while but he just watched movies, played Lego's, and slept for like a week. He's almost 8 now and hasn't been sick once since he got them removed.

They always say it's better to have them out as children as adults have a higher chance of infection. I had mine out aged 26 and got an infection which lasted 2 weeks.
