Prayers please

A friend's niece choked on a piece of popcorn two weeks ago and is in the ICU. She has little to no brain activity and the hospital is trying to take her off life support. The family had to get a judge to order a stay, to give her a little more time to heal in the hopes she'll wake up. I am no doctor, but this family has hope and faith to move mountains - please join us in praying for a miracle for this precious baby. She's only 2. ?

I'll keep them in my thoughts. ?

(I had to tell my husband to stop giving our 18mo popcorn. It's really dangerous. They say not before 4 years old but even me, I choke on hard pieces once in a while. Poor sweet little girl.) ??

Devasting. I felt a chill down my spine for reading it was because of popcorn. Praying for this baby girl's recovery!

Said a prayer for this little one.

I had a friend( he passed recently) who had a very bad accident when he was younger. He was attacked with a motor bike. He was in a coma for a long time. 3 years in his family gave up hope and they had the life support removed and he woke up instead of passing as they thought.

I pray that they give this little one the time she needs to heal and I pray that she wakes up and lives the life she deserves.

Unfortunately, hospitals do have that right. If someone is declared brain dead, the hospital can't justify keeping them alive otherwise there would be rooms and rooms of people of ventilators. That being said, I would absolutely fight the hospital, courts etc. if my baby was in that situation. So sad for the family, I can't imagine. ?

Ugh, I cannot imagine. And we know the God we serve is might to save. I am living them up in prayer.

@littleking - I thought the same thing too. I don't know the story in-depth but they wanted to perform some type of brain dead test on her and if she failed it, they'd have a medical reason to take her off life support. The family says that she responds to certain things and they didn't want the test performed, because they knew if the outcome was bad, the hospital could unplug her. They just want her to have some more time to heal as there was still a lot of swelling around her brain.

The story was in their local news. I guess most people really didn't know that hospitals had this authority. Right now they are trying to get her moved to a different hospital with a world-class neurologist.

So sad and upsetting. I'm sorry. Prayers?

I obviously am very sorry for this prognosis. I am sorry for this family. I am not aware of the hospital being able to make the decision to take anyone off life support except in the abscence of next of kin. I hope they find peace and that things turn around for them.

Honestly, before this happened. I had no idea that hospitals could made that decision against the family's wishes. I mean, I understand that they are the professionals, the prognosis is grim, and they have other patients to treat - but it should be left up to the parents. Not a hospital. Not a court system.

Wow I can't imagine how horrible that would be to have to go through a legal process to keep your own child alive. Actually, that's terrifying. Those poor parents :( I hope she recovers!
