Mother's Day gift...

for high maintenance moms? Any suggestions? My mom isn't happy with anything unless it's expensive. She will never forget not receiving a gift. A card, flowers, and lunch is not enough. A homemade gift - forget about it. A sentimental/thoughtful gift - never. It's really annoying, honestly. I hope my children always know I would rather a heartfelt gesture or sentiment over a material item.

I would give her artwork from my children and if she gets upset inform her that she's ungrateful and her attitude is disgusting. Because it is. My mom specifically asked for artwork from my kids this year

Times like this you use the kids. Have them make something for her and tell her that they insisted this be her gift and you didn't want to break their hearts. Also, make sure the kids smile in her face when you hand it to them. I'd probably even make the craft myself, a nice painted rock that says "world's greatest grandma."

This post makes me sad. :(

Maybe instead of indulging her expensive, ungrateful butt , you shouldn't get her anything expensive. If she gets mad at you , next year I wouldn't get her anything.

Eta: I'm high maintenance but I'd never expect an expensive gift, or any gift at all. Maybe idk the true definition of high maintenance but she just sounds greedy and mean.

My mom is the same way! Last year she said she wanted a michael kors bag ($200+) when she knew i wasn't working and my hubby was barely making ends meet. I gave her a non designer bag, and you could tell she was not happy. This year i'm not giving her anything, why waste the money. I took her out to eat yesterday and that's about it.

My MIL is the complete opposite. She expects nothing and appreciates the simplest of gestures. It's very refreshing.

Honestly, normally I don't mind going all out for my mom on Mother's Day, but she did some things that really hurt me when we lost Enoch and I've not gotten over them yet... my heart's just not in it this year.

If it were my mom and she was that way. She would get a card every year.

I don't really care if she appreciates it or not.

Nothing, then she will know not to expect anything next year and will be pleased to get a card or homemade gift.

Does she need anything for her new place? Like patio furniture or a swing? I second the Pandora if that's her style.

My mil is like this, my mom is the complete opposite and doesn't expect anything.

We got the both a flower in a cute pot this year. Not expensive at all.

Maybe take her out to get her nails done? My mom is the same way but she appreciates a good manicure

My husband was talking about getting me something last night. I said no its fine. The kids picked out a mother's day cake for me. And I just want Dominos lol. I think my mom took dd to get me a gift too. I'm perfectly happy with this.

I'm not a high maintenance mum......but i did get some pandora charms this year ? but i also loved my mug and 2 homemade cards.

Nothing. Because if she's going to be miserable about a gift that thought was put into, then she gets nothing. I love my mom., but if she acted so entitled to expensive presents, she wouldn't get anything.

I'm sorry she's like that.... I think it's so damn rude that people act like that... I told my hubby he didn't have to do anything extreme. I told him pizza, Netflix and cuddles are good enough for me. (Cause money is tight) the simplest things make me happy. Good luck with her...

LOL! I'm cracking up honestly. I just don't get it. I really could not care less if someone spent money on me. It's the thought that counts, honestly.

We've already got her an iPad, iPhone, new computer, jewelry, Bose iPod player, and so on and so on and so on. There are 4 of us kids so we usually always go in on the expensive stuff together. After a while, she has everything and I'm out of ideas.

They are getting ready to move and I was thinking of giving her a coupon to help her pack her house one day. Along with a card, flowers, and a nice lunch. I'm sure she won't appreciate it though.

I'd give her a homemade gift and tell her to shove it up her ass. ?

Just give her the thought it counts ?

Oh wow. My mom passed when I was 11 but I remember a couple years before I found a rock someone had spray painted at the river and I ran home & gave it to her for Mother's Day. That rock sat by the kitchen sink tell she passed. She was so grateful. Your mom would of hated me. Lol

I would be getting her want I want to get her. Not what she expects she "deserves". I say pick some flowers from the ground and make a homemade card. Done.

Well.... I believe I'd be sending her a bucket of rocks! ?

What about a big donation to a charity in her name? ?

Dont get her anything. Doesnt sound like she deserves it.

What price range? Tory burch purse, fossil watch, or maybe a spa package. My dad is like this he always wants expensive things and my mom is the opposite she wouldn't rather receive flowers.

deleted-user

deleted-user

That's crazy. I'm so glad my mom loves receiving flowers.

Let's see, I don't even buy MYSELF expensive things so idk. A watch? Purse? How expensive are we talking anyway?

deleted-user

Give her a Benjamin. Or a reality check, like just a card...maybe.

deleted-user

Or get one of those candles with them diamond ring at the bottom. It could be expensive??

deleted-user

I got my mom a full luxury spa package it was pricey but she deserves it. I tend to get my mom "more expensive" gifts because she deserves the world, but it she expected expensive things that would piss me off and her gifts wouldn't be as good.

What about a Pandora bracelet with the grandchildren birthstones.

Maybe a angel charm for Enoch. And his birthstone.

I'd get her a really big box of nothing wrapped with a beautiful bow. Lol

My mom is the complete opposite she could care less how much my brother or I spend on her she has been telling us since childhood the only thing she want for us is to be happy, healthy, productive members of society. As we have gotten older we always try to do big fancy stuff for her ?... Nope don't fly this woman has a 60in TV sitting in the box at her house. Diamond earrings she has worn literally one time. Asked for an iPad got her one like three years has used it three times, asked for a touch screen computer, still squints to use her phone, bought her a MK bag she insisted I take it back because she had purses from a previous Christmases that she still hasn't used. So you know what she gets now MONEY and GIFT CARDS. lmao but she's not being picky like I don't want people thinking she's unappreciative or whatever she just doesn't see the point of her kids spending so much on her plus she's like I can buy any of this stuff myself. She genuinely would rather have us use our money for savings, for household expenses, for our lives because she is financially stable to a T. To her money can't buy the peace of mind of knowing your adult kids are good and she can just sit back and enjoy being a grandma now. (Which she loves when her grand baby makes her anything) the child made her a macaroni bracelet and she wore it more then the earrings ? who knew.

Basically to sum up I think it speaks volumes when a parent is only concerned about the amount you spend on them. Just do what you can afford if that means a card with heartfelt note then so be it.

She should be grateful to receive anything!

I wouldn't give anything to anyone who expects it or doesn't appreciate my efforts.

Sorry I'm no help on the suggestions lol.

You shouldn't have to spend a lot of money for the gift to matter. If she can't appreciate a hand made or gift from the heart that is her problem, not yours.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

I told my friend my mom wants to throw me a baby shower and write on the invite "monetary gifts only" and he told me that people aren't trying to pay for my "gas bill" I'm offended because a lot of money goes into a baby shower, and if you're gonna give me a 10$ blanket from Ross that I probably won't even use it's a waste. I rather use those 10$ for my honest company diaper subscription.
