Need opinions!!

I have an opportunity to go to Germany next month for work. I am trying to convince my husband to take time off work and come with me, along with our three kids. I would have to work one week, Mon-Fri, but I was thinking we could go the Friday before, site see on Saturday and Sunday, he can do whatever with the kids the week I work, and then we could stay until the following Wednesday - so I could have another 4 days to site-see with the family. Because that week is Memorial Day, DH would only need to use 7 days of PTO (he gets 5 weeks per year) and DS would miss 7 days of school.

He said we would talk about it tonight but he's been downstairs talking to his mom for hours. I have to make my decision tomorrow. Ugh. I'm so mad at him.

Umm he's going!! Is he insane! About two years ago my work paid for me to stay in a hotel out of town for two weeks and I sure as heck dragged them along. It was just him and our daughter. They swam at the hotel, went to the park, took naps, went shopping. They found things to do. I'm sure in Germany there will be pleeenty of tourist things to do.

I don't think I'm going to convince him. He really wants to go, he just doesn't want to take the kids, which isn't an option. Ugh!

It's also because of everything else we have going on. We are supposed to be getting the house ready to put on the market. This has already been delayed 6 weeks because his family moved in with us after a house fire (it was only supposed to be 2 weeks until insurance found them a place?). He thinks the money could be spent on moving related expenses or towards the down payment. The flights alone will cost $3-$4K and he says "that's all new appliances in our next house".

Hells yeah! For most people that is a dream. For other a once in a life time opportunity. To throw away that opportunity would be crazy. I would give my right are to be able to afford for my family (kids mostly) to have that experience and those special memories.

GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!

That's not a lot of school to miss really. And if you give the school enough notice they can prepare a homework packet for him to take. He can work on it on the plane ride and if he happens to get bored. It won't be that complicated for 3rd grade. Definitely get hubby to go

Research all things to do and help him with an itinerary! Then pack and get some fun and culture!!

We were in Düsseldorf, a few hours from Stuttgart:) I went to school there. I've been back to Europe as an adult a few times but never been back to Germany. Definitely on my bucket list though.

I have backpacked alone through Europe twice. I have also traveled with my mother and dd when she was 6 months. It is amazing! You just have to be open to have an adventure.

Tell him that the Porsche and the Mercedes Benz museum are both in Stuttgart!

Same, PP. Ramstein! :-)

No way! Tell him to suck it up. Loads of fun and it will be great for the kids. Where did he grow up? I grew up on a RAF base in Germany.

I'll go with you ?

Ahhhh! We can't make a decision! I'm so upset!

Go!! As far as kids missing school, you learn SO much more in the real world, experiencing the culture. I've been on quite a few trips, with and without school, and I've always gained so much more knowledge in travel rather than in the classroom.

I'd be on that packed and on the plane before you even finished talking lol

The other reason he doesn't want to go is because we were planning on putting the house on the market next month. I said we could push it back to June.

I mean, this is 1.5 weeks! It's not months overseas! I get we have a lot going on but this is a great opportunity! All we have to pay for is their flights!

I spent 3 weeks there for work in 2013 and he was so mad he couldn't go with me. Now I'm giving him that chance!

DH grew up in Germany (USAF). He has always wanted to go back. ALWAYS! Now I am giving him the opportunity (we'll be in Stuttgart, 40 minutes from where he spent his childhood) and he wants to pass it up?!?!

He's in third grade. I mean, I get it's a lot of school but he has only missed 2 days this year and this is a great experience for him. I would hate for him to miss out because of a week at school.

Who likes school anyway?? Haha! Just kidding. :-)

I'd go in a heartbeat, especially with the chance to take my family. I'd make him lol

I would have a concern with taking my kid out of school for 7 days but this could be an amazing life experience that you guys won't get a chance at again.

Is his only concern what he will do while you work? If so, keep bugging him. Lol

Um, if I had a chance to go to Europe, I'd stuff the family in a suitcase and GO!

How cool would that be? He's being weird. Go and have a great time!!
