MIL cut my son's hair!
Today has been ridiculous! MIL cut my son's hair that we were growing out and it looked terrible! Apparently my husband knew about it, although he "told them no, but they did it anyway". I just got so mad at them both and it caused this big fight between DH and I. I felt so disrespected that they would do something like that without running it by me and after I specifically told MIL not to this weekend, when she nonchalantly mentioned she could cut it.

And just in case anyone is wondering: my in-laws are living with is temporarily due to being displaced by a house fire.

Oh you're such a sweetheart!
I'm so sorry she cut your son's hair. That sucks.
Some in-laws just love to go against our wishes.
As for her bday. You had something planned. Go ahead & go through with it. Apologize & tell her it was a stressful day & it slipped your mind. I'm sure she won't be too offended. It wasn't your fault.

If her birthday is tomorrow don't feel bad. Tomorrow is another day and you can do birthday things for her and make tomorrow her day. It doesn't make what she did acceptable.

Oh no, her birthday was today, but he told me it was tomorrow. I didn't find out it was today until his aunt called at 9pm to wish her a happy birthday.

Why did you feel bad? Her birthday isn't till tomorrow.
Edit: nvm

I would've cut my mil hair in her sleep! Oh heck no!

It's sad her birthday was forgotten, but she still disrespected what she said. Just because it's her birthday doesn't make it okay, especially after you said no. I'd be really upset!

Sorry but I would go insane if someone cut my child's hair. Could be because I'm a hairdresser, but I'd lose my head.

I am still really annoyed, but more so with my DH because he let it happen even though he knew it would upset me. After I left for the grocery store, he took my son to the barber shop and they cleaned him up... But sadly, they cut it all off so we have to start this process over again!
It had finally gotten past that awkward length where he didn't look like a bum anymore. It needed to be cleaned up in the back but when I took him to the barbers this weekend, there was an hour wait. I told MIL and she said "well you know, I can cut it. I cut my own hair and I always cut the kids' hair when they were growing up". I said "oh, no thanks. I will just take him back up there this weekend."
? I was trying to be polite but I guess I should have been a bit more straightforward.
