Bleeding dog

I have a 15 year old dog. She hasn't been in heat in 6-7 years, but she just started bleeding. I put a diaper on her for now, but does anyone know why this is happening?

Sorry mumma. You got a lot going on... thinking of you. How scary. Hopefully she is ok and your two little ones are on the mend. Best to you!!

Her labs won't be back until tomorrow and if anything came back abnormal, they'll call me with the results.

Sorry I didn't update sooner! I've also had two sick kids and just got home from the ER with my newborn.

The bleeding stopped and he said everything looked good. He said it just happens sometimes with old dogs that aren't fixed.

Good news is if it is a pyometra it sounds like it's open so antibiotics could possibly fix the problem without surgery. However, that doesn't mean it won't come back.

Pyrometra is why i get all my female dogs fixed. I'm so scared they'll get that, not to mention my husband doesn't want to fix his male, and i don't want puppies when there are so many dogs that need homes.

Thanks! They're going to try and fit her in tomorrow.

I'm nervous. She's just so old, I would hate to put her through a surgery, especially something as hard on her as a hysterectomy. She already has mammary tumors, and her breed life span is 11-15 years. I just hope it's nothing serious.

This sometimes happens to older dogs who haven't been fixed.. you need to take her to the vet asap she may need a hysterectomy. I've had 3 dogs need them due to bleeding in their older years.

Ok, I'll give them a call.

I guess she's been bleeding now for a few weeks, but before it was very small amounts and I couldn't figure it out. I kept finding drops of blood on my floor (like 1 or 2 drops every couple of days). I checked her and my other dog and couldn't find where it was coming from. She attacks my other dog and bites him hard sometimes so I thought maybe that is where it was coming from. Today I was eating turkey leftovers and she was just dripping on the floor while standing hoping for me to drop some food and that's when I realized it was coming from her.

Take her to the vet. It can be a few different things. If she isn't spayed she's at risk for more health issues then if she was. I've been a certified vet tech for a while now and the sooner you get her looked at the better. Not to scare you, it could be nothing serious and I hope it is nothing..but she still needs to be looked at. Check her gum color and make sure it's still pink.

Not to scare u but my friend when we were kids, her dog died on the kitchen floor in her hands cuz he was bleeding from his bladder. His bladder basically ruptured after he went to poo. He was 12years old in perfect health.

I would check it out, maybe it's just an urinary infection.

Good luck!

I should add, we were just at the vet a few weeks ago and everything checked out ok. She does have mammary tumors but those aren't cancerous and aren't causing her any pain/discomfort.

This isn't normal. She needs a vet asap.

Should I take my daughter to urgent care to be checked out? I was in the ER due to a ruptured cyst so my mother had my daughter. She let her dog out and back in my daughter gave the dog a treat. When the dog was eating the treat ava bent down and the dog thought she was taking it away from her so she attacked my child in the face. She got her in five different spots, we cleaned her up with peroxide and antibiotic ointment. They keep bleeding on and off. Idk what to do. Advice please is welcomed.
