Castor oil?!!??

My three year old has had really bad troubles going to the bathroom since I stopped breastfeeding her at 18 months old. She used to be on miralax but it didn't help so I took her off. Nothing I've tried works (except enemas when it's really bad) and I feel so bad for her.

Try smoothies. Green veggies, fruits.....you can add anything and it'll be yummy

You should go and see a specialist I take my dd to the gastroenterologist for her tummy issues

My 2year old has the same problem. I told his pediatrician and they prescribed a powder to mix with his water/juice and works really good!

Apple juice and bananas.

We had to take our daughter off all milk products. We gave her soy milk instead. She is getting ready to turn 8 and we still have to watch her dairy intake or she gets really constipated. I recommend going to a doctor that will do a stool study to see if there are other foods that are causing issues with the GI tract. We have a chiropractor and an Autism center here that does the testing (most docs won't do it if you want to go the natural approach. Also, daughter is not autistic). We also put her on some really good probiotics. Hope your child gets some relief!!

Life cereal. Or a suppository.

My daughter has struggled with this since a few weeks old and is now 7. We have tried a lot of different things but not much change until we started her on Lactalous (I think that's the spelling but can look when I am home) and now she doesn't have as many issues. We did Miralax for a long time and it didn't help much.

She has also made some dietary changes but we noticed the biggest improvement with the lactalous. It isn't perfect but we are in a much better place than we were.

Best of luck!

I did probiotics dds dr recommended it. But you have to make sure they're for kids.

Hmm if the Kayro syrup didn't work the molasses might not work either. I suppose you've tried giving water here and there. Probiotics are a great idea too. Activia yogurt helps get dd to go when she needs to.

Thanks all! I'll try some of these suggestions!

Don't give apple juice - apples bind which doesn't help with constipation. My 1 year old is the same - we give prunes and raisen bran for breakfast, encourage fruit and veg, plenty of water and give miralax if she hasn't pooped for a day... it's helped but she still struggles some days. I would try the caster oil - talk to your paed first though.

It's called Nature's Way Primadophilus for children. My son gets it three times a day or you could just throw it in the water she drinks. It's a powder that dissolves and is tasteless.

Why not? Thats castor oils main porpose. Some people take a tablespoon a day to keep regular. I wouldnt give it to my kids without speaking to their pediatrician first but I don't see an issue with it.

We took her to a specialist when she was 1, when this all started happening, and they wanted me to put her on this special drink - similar to pediasure, but she refused to drink it. We then switched her to soy (the doctor thought it was dairy related) and stopped giving her all other dairy products but it didn't help so I eventually moved her back to whole milk.

I need to make another appointment

Yes, Dianam! The name of that would be great!

We've tried the Karo syrup and that didn't help either.

I will also look into the fiber tablets. If there is one thing she does eating, it's fruits and veggies! Which is another reason I am so disheartened by this, since you'd think that would be helpful.

Karo sryup and warm water works immediately

Pear juice always worked with my daughter

Have you tried giving her more fiber? Like fiber tablets, I have a friend whos daughter needed fiber tablets on a daily basis when she was younger because she was a picky eater. Also I second the molasses and kayro syrup works too just a little on some water, juice or milk.

Yes! Probiotics for sure.

We use probiotics specifically for kids. I can find the name of it if you are interested.

It wouldn't hurt to take her to see a specialist. At two when I initially saw them they did a flush with a ton of mirilax mixed with a certain drink. I had to give him a cup or so every hour for a long period and it flushed him out to where he didn't have a choice but to go and it wasn't painful on his bum since it was diarrhea. It was supposed to be like starting from scratch but he ended up holding it again and again. We didn't go through the hospital procedures until he was about 4. Maybe since she's so young still, something like this will work.

That's exactly what my son was doing. Does it smell just awful?

Нравится Ответить

They say most "P" juices are good so if prune isn't working, try to get your hands on some pear juice or peach juice. That's all my son had besides water for years lol. I would just do it myself or buy the organic no sugar added brand.

Pp, what was he leaking?

Often when we change her diaper, there is a small amount of liquid in her diaper. That's when she's trying to go but there is so much blockage, only a small amount of liquid comes out, if that makes sense.

She drinks apple almost every day and still goes weeks without going.

I hadn't heard of the molasses, I'll try that!!

My son started doing this when he was a year old. I tried EVERYTHING. It got painful for him so he started holding and had a condition called encopresis. His insides were stretched from holding and he lost control of his pooping. He was used to the smell and had no sensation so he couldn't tell if he had gone or not. I took him to a GI when he was two after trying multiple things with his regular pedi. We ended up having a barrium enema done and a biopsy. He was tested for every disease we could think of. But it was just from being constipated for so long and eventually his body started to tighten back up. He no longer has leakage or pain but isn't regularly going (he's 8). The mirilax is meant to soften the stool so that when they do go, it isn't as painful. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get him into a GI so maybe an appointment wouldn't hurt since nothing is working. We went through it until he was 5-6.

A little molasses in her sippy it works like a charm.

I always give ds apple juice when he's constipated.

We tried prune and pear juice. Nothing. :-( I was thinking of trying to bake prunes into some sort of muffin to see if that would help, she's just so picky with food.

How do you discipline an 11 month old? Shes been so bad lately and if you tell her no she doesn't listen.

1
ambermarieeee I'm not saying discipline as in hitting cause I would NEVER hit my kids. I was abused
a.mama22 It’s best not to use the word “no” for a child that age unless they’re in danger.

I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!

lillyb Good job giving ur self a break we all need them. See if maybe she will nurse
delete____ I have to commend you for stepping away, momma!! Everyone reacts to a child screaming differently and
imisssleep123456789 Ugh I remember those days. With both kids I decided to always top them off with formula.
