I was told that kids don't even need medicine until a fever of 104 unless they're in pain. That was when my daughter was 3 months old and had a fever of 104.5 due to a kidney infection. Needless to say, she was hospitalized.

My kids normally show signs of pain at about 102, and I'll give them ibuprofen. Tylenol hasn't ever helped any of them.

Nope a fever is the body's natural way of fighting off infections. Just use ice packs or cold compresses and cold drinks to help her not over heat

Actually runs is completely right. Except for the risk of the child hurting themselves from falling or something like that febrile seizures are scary but do not pose risk to the child.

We don't even call the doctor for a temp in the 104's because my ds is very prone to high temps.

Fevers in young infants like under 3 months old can be dangerous & even those shouldn't be treated before being seen (if at all possible), otherwise Yes, fevers are a sign that the body is fighting something off but no, they shouldn't automatically be treated... interfering with the body's immune response can actually prolong illness.

Under 104 is still a "normal range" fever & given the individual isn't dehydrated are not "dangerous" until 106+.

ETA: While scary, febrile seizures are **not** dangerous.

Low grade temps that are not bothering the child are not dangerous. Fevers are the body's way of fighting the infection and a very important immune defense.

Edited to add- the danger with temperatures is if they rise of fall too quickly they can cause febrile seizures in some kids. Temps even as high as 103 aren't dangerous in kids.

Always. Fevers are a sign of infection, and especially in the very young, can be very dangerous.

I alternate between the two when my son has a fever. He's only gotten really sick a couple of times, but both times he was clearly very uncomfortable.

My younger daughter responds better with Tylenol. If she's have particularly high fevers I use both, not at the same time tho. She is prone to high fevers with seizures so I give at the first sign of a fever.

My older girls always did better with Motrin so it all depends on which your child responds to better.

I only give it when needed. Or if the fever is too high. Iv always heard that your not necessarily treating the fever, but the discomfort that it causes them

I like to alternate actually! Too much tylenol is hard on your liver but too much ibprofen is hard on your kidneys. And like others said only if they really really need it.

Nope. We don't give tylenol at all bc it depletes glutathione which is imperative for a good/strong immune response. And we only medicated fevers that are nearing or over 103 AND bothersome (with Motrin). I know that fevers even up to 104 are not dangerous in & of themselves & just push fluids & do what we can to keep them comfortable so that the body can do what it needs to do (reducing a fever by meds doesn't equate to the body not being ill so I try to let it do its job). I usually use lavender EO diluted in coconut oil & occasionally use peppermint EO on DS who is older.

Ok good! That's how I am too but my DH is giving me a hard time about it. I told him if she playing and singing bubble guppies, she doesn't need any medicine! He is just a hypochondriac.

Only if it's right before bed. I always feel like if she has a fever she might have a head ache. It happens to me when I have a fever and it's really hard to sleep with a head ache.
