You don't have to but the connection ends get stretched slightly over time. If you look when you pull them off the pump they start to hold that shape. Suction is better if you replace or at least snip off the last cm or so every few months. I just found it easier to replace. You should also replace the little white discs every few months.
I bought ones that were medela and ones that weren't...I never saw a difference!
So weird! I was looking for tubing months ago when I was still expecting my second child. I checked target and even the Medela website and couldn't find any tubing. Is the tubing you get from Amazon made by Medela? I feel like I may have found some that wasn't made by Medela so I wasn't sure about buying it. Also, the Medela manual says nothing about replacing the tubing. If i remember correctly, their website gives instruction on cleaning and sanitizing. I could be wrong, like I said this was months ago. Now I feel the need to look into this again. My tubing is about 2 years old!!
I got all my replacement parts for that pump on Amazon. But I've seen them in target too!
Jenn, it's a Medela pump in style. Sorry! Stupid of me not to say what kind of pump.
Thanks so much! It's a closed system but I'll go ahead and replace tubes and collection kit.
Andrea, what kind of pump? I just always got replacment parts on Amazon!
Where can you find new tubing? It's the ONLY part I haven't been able to find! You would think if it needs to be replaced so often, it wouldn't be so hard to find.
Always replace anything that touches the milk or breast. Microscopic particles of milk can be pulled into the tubing (and if open systems like medela even into the pump which is why you should never share or use a used open system pump). In reality, it's. best to replace the tubing every few months anyway.
It never does, you are correct. I've read a ton of women saying on here that you should always replace the tubing, even between babies, because bacteria can get in the tubes? I'm not sure if that's true or not though.
Also, I know when you rent a pump, they always give you new tubes and new parts every time, the only thing reused is the actual pump.
I've only ever used a manual pump, so I could be wrong, but isn't the tubing something that never comes in contact with the breast milk? So, why would it need to be replaced?
My sweet baby girl gained her angel wings this morning. She was my best friend, my true love my everything. She was so happy and beautiful, I'm struggling to say good bye. Sleep tight princess, mummy and daddy love you very very much ❤
