High BP

My BP was high-ish at my checkup today. 138/87. It's been on the higher side the last two appointments. :-/ He wants me to come back in on friday for another BP check.

Watch your salt intake, relax(I know it's hard with other children, when it starts going up lay on your left side( they say drink water but that never helped me)

How far along are you? And please watch your bp get a bp cuff and monitor it yourself. The first sing of preeclampsia is high bp and my dr just acted like nothing was wrong until I brought a paper where I checked my bp ever hr and it stayed 200/99 or higher

I had hbp with my 1st. My mw had me increase my protein intake to 90 grams a day, drink nettles tea and a lot of water. Had to keep a food diary. I was able to stabilize it so it wouldn't increase more. I don't know if its been suggested but check out the brewers diet for pregnancy online. Good luck!

Thanks Jenn! Good info, I didn't realize there was that much of a difference. Now it makes more sense that my doctor wasn't super worried.

Good luck mama! Try to relax, stressing out can make bp worse =)

Ok! Thank you! I'm relaxing now and will go buy a cuff tomorrow so I can keep and eye on it. :-)

The difference between 87 and 89 is negligible. Those 2 pressures aren't that different, but slightly better. Hopefully the bottom number comes down a little. I'd personally monitor it daily and anytime you have symptoms.

Thank you, ladies! I really appreciate all the input!

The machine at the store said it's 130/89. I don't know anything about BP so why did the top number go down and the bottom go up?

There is a big difference between pregnancy induced hypertension and primary hypertension during pregnancy. There is a higher chance of developing eclampsia with PIH rather than with baseline hypertension.

Нравится Ответить

If you can afford it buy a blood pressure cuff while there and check it daily at home. decreased flow to the placenta is not actually the only big risk in pre eclampsia, you yourself are at risk for seizures and stroke leading to permanent brain damage if it gets too high and turns to full blown eclampsia. So monitor closely and call even with little changes and concerns.

That's actually not too high. I have chronic high blood pressure meaning it's high whether or not I'm pregnant. With my first i was on meds the whole time and the goal was to keep it below 140/90. That is what is safe. Yours is right up there but still ok. Mine stayed around that till about 7 months then got higher. If yours gets higher they may consider putting you on a small dose of a med to help control it. Nothing to worry much about at this point. They will keep a close eye on you. lay on your left side when resting, the left side lowers your bp :)

No stress or pain, I was even early! :-)

I'm heading to Walgreens now to take my BP. My headache has subsided a little bit so that's good!

Oh and I had to monitor my bp at home daily and call immediately if it was above a certain level.

Like pp I was on labetalol

I had high bp with both my pregnancies. Wound up with pre-e and bed rest with my first and induced at 37.5 weeks or so, with my second I made it farther but was still induced at 39 weeks cause it was becoming uncontrollable.

My doc had me on meds and eating a banana every day, she told me to watch my salt but that diet probably wouldn't have a huge impact since it was pregnancy induced.

Always watch for a bad headache that doesn't go away, blurred vision and ringing in the ears!

Just keep an eye on it, and ring in if you are concerned don't wait a week or so

My next app was 3 weeks off and I rang in as I was concerned & they gave me advice and made me a appt for the same week. Said come in if I wS worried, the flashy vision is not a good sign so look after yourself and ring if you are concerned Hun x

I've had the blurred vision and do have a headache today, but that is a new thing! I think I'm going to stop by the walgreens and take my BP again tonight to see what it is. I was in L&D in July because I fell and it was 147/94, they made me stay so they could monitor me until it went back down. :-(

No. It can just go up in pregnacy / they can give you a safe med for it - labetalol which I am on. My high bp vanished for most of 2nd trimester but has returned, they are more concerned with the bottom number being above 90 - that's when I take a tablet at the moment. I'm in on thurs and I think they will make me start a regular dose now as it's creeping above 90 frequently

On it's own it's not the end of the world as they can manage it but they will also look for protien in urine (sign of pre eclampsia)

Keep an eye out for headaches and blurred vision, I monitor my bp at home,

The danger of high bp is restricted blood flow to the placenta so they want to keep it down , yours is kind of pre high so don't panic /

You can help mainly by rest and trying not to stress. Relax as much as you are able

I'll be 33 weeks on Thursday. My vision has also been bothering me (blurry) which I read could also be a symptom of high BP.

I sit when I work all day but I have two other kids so I am pretty active in the evenings. I also eat pretty well, not a lot of preservatives, usually fresh meat/veggies, fruit, etc., but I have been craving hummus and guac lately!

Same thing happened to me I had lots of appointments where my BP was high I ended up having NST twice a week. Oh and was put on medication for it.

A big thing to do is cut your salt intake way down. Drink lots of plain water and try taking a 30 minute walk each day. How far along are you? If it keeps going up and you are doing what you can to control it, meds/bed rest will be the best option. If you're past 20 weeks they will test you for preeclampsia. They test your urine at every visit usually to check for spilled glucose/proteins but it they suspect pre-e they will have your do a 24 hour urine and blood test. Hope that helps some! Your Bp isn't *terrible* yet but definitely on the higher side, hopefully cutting your salt and upping your water helps :) good luck

Diet wise just watch ur salt intake, and don't forget the process food. Even the "healthier" options that r frozen r filled with salt for preservatives. Also drink lots of water.

If it continues to stay elevated he will probably put u on a bp medication. If it gets really high then usually they put u on bedrest.
