Butter? Out or in the fridge

Do you keep butter out on the counter or in the fridge? Where do you live? LOL!

Counter. I'm in ny.

Buy on sale and put extra in freezer. Put in fridge next. Keep one stick out at a time and don't get a new one out until it is gone. (Or gross if we don't use much butter for too long.)

I store the box with most sticks in the fridge but one stick sits on the counter in a butter dish so it is soft for toast and whatnot. I live in Michigan.

In the fridge. It's dairy and will spoil. I'm from California

My mom leaves it out. Everyone else I know puts it in the fridge. Lol.

My mom is from Tennessee.

If your pregnant- please do not leave butter out. Salt apparently stops it from growing bacteria faster then other food but after 4 days I would toss it. I personally won't feed it to my children. You can also make your own spread by adding olive oil and blending the butter so is soft and spreadable and be able to put it in the fridge.

Haha! @Lisa - that's why I wanted to ask. I always figured it would go bad too because it's dairy but DH's family always leaves it out and they've never gotten sick from it and it's never spoiled.

Ok! You've ladies have convinced me, I'm leaving it out!

We used to use margarine and I would only use butter sticks for cooking, but after realizing how bad margarine is for your heart and arteries, I decided to use butter 100%. Everyone is right, it sucks to use when cold because you can't spread it. I bought a butter dish two days ago and now it's on the counter! :-)

But doesn't the packaging tell you "refrigerate after opening"? I'm so confused. I didn't know it could be left out

Нравится Ответить

From Rhode Island and never thought to leave it out everyone I know uses the fridge. Leave it out all the time ? Or just during the day? Is that even allowed ? Haha never heard of that !!

Нравится Ответить

I had no idea you could leave butter out!

When I was a kid my mom always kept it in the fridge, which I thought was stupid because of course, it's hard to spread. When I got my own place I always kept it out and eventually my mom came around to my way of thinking and can't believe she ever liked it in the fridge. We're in the north.

We keep a little bit out at a time on the counter in a glass Pyrex container. We don't go through butter that quickly. My parents always leave their butter on the counter too. We're in Canada.

It's a dairy product, does it not go off/bad left out?

Нравится Ответить

In the fridge. I always assumed growing up it would go bad.

Нравится Ответить

We always kept ours in the fridge when i was growing up and i assumed it would go bad left out...when i married dh he always left it out and now i feel like ive been doing it wrong my whole life haha it's so much easier to spread

Нравится Ответить

All these people saying it'll melt. It hasn't melted in 120 degree weather. What kinda weather do you have!? O_o

On the counter in a butter bell. You can't spread real butter that's been in the fridge until you want to use it.

I buy at least 2 2 lbs bricks of butter every time I go shopping since I do a lot of baking. One brick stays on the counter and one goes in the fridge until the counter one is gone. If I already had one in the fridge extra goes in the freezer.

I never know when hubby will want cookies or something so I can never have to much.

Butter in the fridge. Margarine if we have to buy it on the counter. I hardly every by margarine after reading stuff on it, gross.

I live in Australia, we leave it in the fridge. it would definitely melt if left out haha

Нравится Ответить

I wanna put it in but hubby is SO adament about keeping it out because he can't spread it when it's cold lol.

fridge, from arkansas and my kitchen has a giant window that let's it get pretty warm in there. my coconut oil often goes to liquid so I'm betting my butter would too.

Butter is out, margarine in the fridge. We live in N. Idaho.

Fridge, from NC

I buy the sticks and we keep it on the counter. My hubby keeps the fridge a few degrees colder than it should be which makes the butter really hard, so it stays on the counter. It does get extra soft during heat waves but never melts.

Fridge but only because I don't have anything to put it in. I prefer to leave it on the counter. I noticed my mom starting that and it's so much better! Although my s.o freaks when I forget to put it back in the fridge lol hopefully once it's in something he won't freak so bad.

In VA also, we and everyone we know refrigerate our butter

In. If I need it for toast or pancakes I pull it out early.

Fridge.

We use the spreadable kind so it melts if left out. If it is stick butter though we would leave it out.

Нравится Ответить

In the fridge, because I don't use real butter

Нравится Ответить

I buy spreadable butter (it has oil added). It's still a bit on the hard side but I prefer to keep it in the fridge. We don't use it enough to keep it out. I feel like it would spoil.

Нравится Ответить

I keep some on the counter for toast or if you just need soft butter. I keep some in the fridge to resupply my counter butter and to cook with, and then i keep extra butter in the freezer for storage.

Counter. I have a vintage pyrex butter dish I use

I live in Wa, and in the winter it stays on the counter, and in the summer when it's hot it stays in the fridge.

Нравится Ответить

I used to keep mine in the fridge because that's what my mom did but my husband gets pissy if the butter is to hard to spread on toast so it sits on the counter now. We live in Texas.

real butter: counter

healthy spread: fridge

you can't spread real butter if it's been in the fridge lol. I make my own and it's impossible once cold

Нравится Ответить

We keep ours out, live in NY

Fridge. My dad's family is from Illinois, my mom's is in NC.

When I lived in NM my roommates insisted on leaving it out on the counter. I never used the butter lol.

Нравится Ответить

Fridge- it turns to a puddle of mush on the counter. We keep the house about 75.

Нравится Ответить

I keep mine in the fridge. It's habitual, because that's how my mom did it up until 2 years ago. I'm in North Carolina, so I worry the heat down here will melt it completely.
