Depends on how far and how big the baby is. My first ultrasound was at 7 weeks, and the baby was only centimeters

^ not true, I had abdominal ultrasound at 9 weeks, baby was very clear. Usually after about 8 weeks you can see baby through an abdominal ultrasound. Especially at 10-12 weeks

Pp, the baby isn't to small to be seen by a abdominal ultrasound.

With my first two kids I had gotten abdominal ultrasounds at around 8-9 weeks and with my third I was only about 4-5 weeks and had a vaginal ultrasound

They usually do the abdominal, then if they can't see anything they do a vaginal. Atleast with my experiences

Thanks ladies! The first trimester screening is the testing for chromosomal abnormalities. I'm 13 weeks so it was abdominal and I got some SUPER great shots! Baby is a wiggle worm though, constantly moving. :-)

I just had a vaginal scan done today at 9 weeks 4 days. I think it just depends on the office.

My first ultrasound was at 7 weeks and 3 days and it was abdominal. They said if they couldn't see what they needed they would do a vaginal, but it wasn't needed.
