Sandy!!
Who's getting caught up in this crap? I just read they are conservatively estimating more than 10 million people without power. Ugh!
Well I fell asleep early and actually slept through everything! :-) and I woke up and we still have power! Woo-hoo!
We are in CT too. So far we haven't lost power, but the winds are strong, it's rainy and there is a lot of flooding at our shores. Coupled with evacuations and 150,000 out of power. They are estimating that between 300k-600k will lose power, but I'm not really sure what to expect as far as the hurricane goes. It's supposed to hit us from 10pm-2am.
If they ever called an evacuation here, I would be out the door in no time flat!!!
Still have power but lots of folks around us don't have it.
Praying for everyones safety!
Unfortunately, even with all the warnings we'll always have those individuals who want to think they're invincible and act reckless and, sorry but its true, plain out stupid in the storm. It's one thing if you HAVE to be out. Things happen. Jobs still have to be done, babys still need to be born etc.
Don't compare this storm to Irene. It's way bigger. Irene was a normal category 1 hurricane. They lose power when they hit landfall.
They're saying Sandy is picking up power because of the cold storms approaching. Shes was bigger and more dangerous. One death in an accident on I-270 just reported
We are good here in VA but I read that more than 100K are out of power in NY and up.
So how is it this morning for everyone?
Here in NoVa the winds are just starting to pick up. We have gotten a little less than 2 inches of rain so far. Nothing serious yet, but she is coming!
So we have city water. If our power goes out, our water still works. What could cause the water to stop working? Or would it just not be sanitary?
I live in Monmouth county NJ! My town has a mandatory evacuation but we cant leave because we have three dogs. To make matters worse I'm 40+3 I JUST lost my plug and if I have to go to the hospital we have to leave them here and hope my family can get across town to check on them :( I'm so worried stressed out
Oh and for the record, the other trees that may hit other houses are in our neighbors yard. We had all of ours taken care of and urged him to do the same, but he didn't.
I'm worried about that too. We had 5 really old, dangerous trees cut down a few years ago and the tree people said they were our only "concerning" trees. If the others fall, they won't hit our house but they might hit others.
Federal government is closed tomorrow! All of the counties have closed the schools now too! All in our area.
S*** 's about to get real!
Just sent DH to the store. We will see how this goes. They are saying this will be worse than Irene, which killed 56 people and caused more than $19 billion in damages.
We shopped on Friday! Although I really wish I had some hummus right about now. I might venture out in a few. Hope that goes well!
I'm in NoVa prince William county and it supposed to get bad. I live on. Military base and they boarded up windows on the chapel and other important buildings. Walmart was packed and there was barely any water or chips in the store! I have family in northern New Jersey too and they are all expecting the worse.
I really hope its not all that bad I live in Jersey. people are in the isles literally fighting over the last toilet paper, all the stores are out of everything. batteries, water, candles, nonperishables, etc. with Irene we had severe flooding and lost power for 4 days. ill be PISSED if it goes down like that again...
Im VA Beach. Theres alot of flooding currently but so far its not too bad. Tomm is supposed to be the worse but I think we got lucky and it will mostly miss us. But I have family in Long Islad, Delaware, and Upstate NY. Im worried for them! Eveybody in the northern east coast, your in my thoughts!!
Well every surrounding county schools have been closed down but no word on Prince William County! I also hope that OPM declares at least a liberal leave day tomorrow, people shouldn't be forced to drive into the city, where it is supposed to be worse!
I however work from home everyday so I will be stuck working, unless the power is out!!!
@ luv I also live in the Bronx. All public and private schools are closed. The mta will begin to shut down starting at 7pm and by 3 am there will be no mass transit. I work in one of the zone locations that will be evacuated. NYC is built on top of a landfill so that's why NYC is prone to extreme floods. My sister lives in ulster county and they lose power during a normal storm so she is expecting to lose power and flooding since they are surrounded by rivers.
Me! In MD, state of emergency declared, some counties already closed schools and people are running around as if it's the zombie apocalypse!
I'm only concerned because I'm due in 9 days and have been having some symptoms of early labor...my hospital is about 20ish minutes away on a good day so I'm a little nervous! We shall see though!
Oh and tomorrow is my birthday :-) last year on my birthday it snowed, this year a hurricane...jeeze!!
I'm here in The Bronx,New York area and they're closing schools and everything public tomorrow. MTA will be suspended @ 5 or 7pm tonight and zone a residents have to leave their homes. They also said that Sandy is stronger than Irene! So NYC will be a ghost town something you never see here. Spooky!
In northern VA, it is supposed to start tonight, but the worst will be from noon tomorrow through 8pm Tuesday and should be all cleared up in time for trick or treating on wednesday.
They declared a state of emergency here on Friday and all weekend I've been tracking the storm.
I live in atlantic city and still can't get home. Luckily, I have no damage. My fathers house is absolutely destroyed. Friends of mine have lost everything. President Obama actually visited my hometown of Brigantine to help assess the damage. If anyone wants to help please donate to the red cross.
