Just saw this on the news... Apparently military moms can't nurse in public?!? I find that ridiculous!!!

As people have already stated, there are no current regulations about bf in uniform. So no one is breaking any rules if they do it UNLESS whoever is in charge where they are bfing has made a policy that it is not allowed. For example, at my unit, if my Commander says I can sit at the conference table with everyone in the office and bf, then I'll whip it right out and feed my daughter. If he did not allow it, then I would have to go to one of the offices with a door and feed her there.

I have fed my daughter in uniform more times then I can count. Many times there were no other options. So I guess these people who are against it feel that my daughter should go hungry.

Just because the military has stupid regulations does not mean you should support adding more stupid regulations. That is what is wrong with the U.S. We are so complacent with everything that is bad that when more crap is piled on us, instead of fighting it, we just say "Oh well it already sucks so it might as well suck more." I don't live by that philosophy. I am always fighting against what I think is wrong.

Right now, the Army is proposing new standards on appearance and grooming standards that are flipping ridiculous. A few are that men will have to shave every single day even if they are on leave (vacation). Men will have to tuck their shirts into their pants and if the pants have belt loops a belt must be worn in civilian clothes even while off post and off duty. Women can at no time have fake nails, eyelashes or fake hair (weaves, extensions, etc.) even while off duty or on leave. WTF. There are many more, but no one here has the time for that. I just mention it because if you let an organization run wild with rules and restrictions and regulations for no real, good reason other than the sake of "it's the Military!" then the important stuff gets lost in the mix.

The U.S. Army. Where men and women can die for you but you can't look nice for a wedding or be comfortable on your family vacation.

The command did not authorize this, from my understanding... This is a group on base started in January.

Нравится Ответить

This was a photo shoot. The moms on base have a group to support breastfeeding mothers. That's why the picture was taken. They're have been other ladies in the military breastfeed while in inform these just got more attention. Anyway I personally have never served so ill just leave it at that.

I agree Sarah!

Нравится Ответить

I think it's a sweet photo :) so much love in the mothers' eyes :)

Нравится Ответить

And I totally respect and understand that point of view as well Jackie!! :)

Нравится Ответить

Uniform or regulations are not more important than my child's hunger. I do respect if others opinions differ.

Нравится Ответить

@niik. I agree. Baby should come first. But they don't come first when daddy has to deploy. They dont come first When both parents Are slotted to deploy at the same time Family doesn't come first when it comes to duty. Sadly

Нравится Ответить

Yes. I have. I didn't understand their relevance is all

Нравится Ответить

Off topic but these women are beautiful! & their hair is super shiny!

Нравится Ответить

Im an Army wife & i think it's bullsh*t. A baby's needs should be more important than "regulations."

Нравится Ответить

My boobs are so small. Smh

Нравится Ответить

His right hand has to be free to salute in public just in case we ran into anybody. But even holding my right hand is risky. And we can't hold hands at all on post.

Нравится Ответить

Why can't he hold ur left hand if in uniform?

Нравится Ответить

No panties in my ass lol. I just didn't understand what you were trying to say lol. The speedo and YMCA comments threw me off

And if the command approved it no biggie. But I still don't understand why it's such a big deal to have the uniform on in a precise way and this not matter I guess. But I know every female mother in the military I am friends with don't do it. They excuse themselves. I doubt they're changing out of uniform but they aren't in public doing it

Нравится Ответить

I read the article a few days ago and I think it should be allowed.

By the way the command approved the photo shoot.

The point they were making was that women are getting in trouble for pumping at work because they aren't changing out of their uniform and changing back into it during a lunch break.

There is a difference between PDA (holding hands) and breast feeding in my opinion.

But the military does have certain rules, so if the command is not ok with it then of course they shouldn't be doing it. Sad but true.

Нравится Ответить

Could they sit in a car and breastfeed? I'm just asking since you can't have skin showing and your uniform unbuttoned in public. (I'm non military so I had no idea) Or is it not in public, period?

Нравится Ответить

Ladies in other countries what does ur military say about this?

Нравится Ответить

I would never have the cajones to breast feed in uniform ,& my SO being prior marine would probably be against it too. That's just me though .. We get yelled at if our sleeves aren't Velcro-Ed properly , I'm pretty Lifting up your top (even if it is to feed baby) will not be condoned . Their is no

Regulation as of yet regarding breast feeding bit after stuff like this I'm sure something , even just your own command , not

Necessarily military wide , will have some guidelines about bf

Нравится Ответить

Are you in the military? Is your OH? My guess is no since you aren't understanding when I say there are regulations while IN UNIFORM. I believe they should be followed. There is currently no regulations against BFing in public in uniform. But personally, I think there should be. Because there are similar things set up and even crazier things than that.

Their uniform is to be worn properly at all times. Here, in this picture, they are not.

If you have no respect for the uniform and whatnot represents, I understand why you wouldn't get it. To you, it's just clothes.

To me, my BFF, and my OH- its more

Нравится Ответить

What?

Нравится Ответить

I can gauren-damn-tee ya if a military man was was walking around In uniform tops and speedos bottoms he'd get in some serious s***

Нравится Ответить

Not while in uniform....??? They're wearing their uniform. What the heck? Lol

What they do and wear in their civilian attire is nobodies business.

Нравится Ответить

See. That's the problem weirdly enough. You shouldn't be able to tell a woman in uniform has perfect breasts.

But yes, they are nice lol

Нравится Ответить

I forgot that the other branches can wear them off base. Thanks for reminding me. There are so many restrictions on what they can do in a uniform. I get most of them but some of them I just shake my head at.

Нравится Ответить

I agree Sara! But my OH is army. He can wear his ACUs anywhere. But there are DEFINITELY restrictions to what he can do!! A ton of them!!! And the uniform is to ALWAYS be complete and worn properly.

Нравится Ответить

I agree malika!!! Perfectttt lol

Нравится Ответить

I understand why they don't allow it but my husband is a Marine. Uniforms are a big deal in the military. This may cause people to bash me but I look at this picture and think it is so disrespectful to the uniform. Then again I don't really see why they're nursing in their uniforms in the first place. My husband isn't allowed to wear his cammies around town. He has to go home and change them. So where are these girls at that they are able to just get out of their cars in their uniform and nurse? I guess I don't see why they need to be out and about in their uniforms anyways. I don't know maybe I've been a military wife too long now to look at that kind of stuff lol. Uniforms are apart of the job and should be respected. Just because you have a vagina doesn't mean the rules should be changed. Most of these women are screaming they want the same respect as the men get in the military yet want a lot of the rules changed for them. If my husband can't go around with his shirt up in public neither should women. Yes, I get that they are feeding their kids. My husband could say that he was trying to bond with our preemie with skin to skin contact. I'm ready to be bashed for that comment and I so don't care.

Нравится Ответить

Me ex was in the air force and got in huge trouble because he didn't have his hat on while outside, but he was in the rest of his uniform.

Нравится Ответить

People get in big trouble for having their uniform out of place. I know someone who got an article 15 for taking a pic of them in their uniform and was shirtless underneath the top shirt and had unbuttoned. Big trouble

Нравится Ответить

I'm in the air force and I nurse my LO.

It's because we have such rigid standards on how to wear our uniform.

Everything from our hair, to our jewelry, to exactly how our patches must be sewn on, to how our pants are bloused and how are boots are laced matters.

When I was pregnant I couldn't mix my non-maternaty ABU top with my maternity ABU pants.

Put it this way, you can't have any part of your uniform unbuttoned...at all. How can you nurse in full uniform if you can't unbutton your top?

You also have to have your t-shirt tucked in at all times. How can you nurse if you can't untuck your t-shirt?

Нравится Ответить

Exactly. They can't smoke and walk at the same time either. Weird? Yes. But when he needed a cigarette break, we stopped.

Нравится Ответить

New- I was wondering the same thing. When my husband was a Marine, he wasn't allowed to walk and eat in his uniform in public.

Some rules are ridiculous, but you have to abide by them.

Нравится Ответить

@momma well stated and all true

Нравится Ответить

I think it's gives off a "we kick ass & are great moms" type of impression. That's just me, I see nothing wrong with it.

Нравится Ответить

They weren't told they weren't allowed, there is no rule regarding nursing/uniform wearing within military code... There probably will be soon though. From what I understand, though, there are lots of other rules regarding military uniforms and things that you can't do, and when you consider those... Breastfeeding is considerably more controversial, (such as eating while walking)

Нравится Ответить

Just out of pure curiosity. Do the people who love the picture and don't get the big deal part of the military or is your OH part of the military?

Нравится Ответить

I love the picture.

Нравится Ответить

I kinda think it's a disgrace to the military.. I'm all for breastfeeding, but modestly with a cover. Especially while in uniform. I'm sure they could get in a Lot of Trouble for this "/

Нравится Ответить

It's because there in uniforms

Нравится Ответить

Exactly pp. being in uniform is the issue. Not in public. There are a lot of regulations. And even if you don't agree, if you signed up, you follow them. Now If they were doing it at home and nobody could see, then they could get away with it.

Нравится Ответить

It's not that it's against breast feeding in public it's because they're in uniform and they have to follow certain dress codes. My husbands a marine and I can't hold his hand when hes in uniform. Hes not even allowed offbase in his uniform ( unless in car/motorcycle) so when he needs to get gas or a drink I have to go in for him.

I personally always nurse with a cover while not at home, but I think it should be allowed anywhere!

Нравится Ответить

Great picture!

Нравится Ответить

Idk if there is like an actual military law stating it isn't allowed. But it is seen as unmilitary. The base here considers a person in uniform pushing a stroller unmilitary as well if a civilian partner is present.

Annoying? Yes. But there is a lot of rules that are

Нравится Ответить

Wow that's hot!

Нравится Ответить

Lots of rules. When you're in uniform you are held to a way different standard. There are many things you can't or shouldn't do.

My BFF is in the army and is a huge breast feeding advocate. But does not do so visibly in uniform because she believes while in uniform you shouldn't show skin. I showed her the picture yesterday and she was a little ticked you could see part of the left girls boobs. She said that while BFing while not covered I front of me lol. So she's no anti-breast feeding woman. Just doesn't like it while in uniform

I actually don't agree. But that's the way it is

Нравится Ответить

Oh I didn't know they had rules.

Нравится Ответить

There are like 3 posts about this explaining why. The military has rules while in uniform. Some of them are stupid. But it's true

Нравится Ответить

They are mothers like any of us. Who ever stopped them should be arrested for stupidity.

Нравится Ответить

Because theyre in uniform. There are a lot of things you can't do in uniform. My OH can't even hold my left hand while wearing his uniform

(not saying I agree. But I see where they are coming from)

Нравится Ответить

Maybe something to do with the dress code of the military? Idk I've never heard that though.

Нравится Ответить

love this pic!!

Нравится Ответить

And why not? That's so stupid!
