Girls vs boys?!

Dogs... That is! Which sex is more protective? I have had both and I feel that they were both protective equally but my MIL and DH both said female dogs are more protective and said I shouldn't get a male. Opinions please!! :)

I think female dogs ten to be more protective & high strung. Every male dog I've ever owned has been a big lazy baby.

I believe females r more protective because they r more territorial because of that "mommy" instinct. Even if they don't have puppies. But if they do have puppies then watch out. Lol. Mine jus had puppies n she's taken to barking at people she's known her whole life. She's never bit or growled. Jus barked I'm assuming to warn them.

I agree with above person. Outside is definately a male dog deal because if someone does try and get through.... He will take them down. If inside dog.... They won't try and come in if a female sounds scary. Lol

Females are more protective I have always owned dogs girls and boys, I now have a black lab girl who is about 7 months! She's perfect! So calm and mellow, doesn't chew stuff, doesn't bark or growl she's great

Females are generally more protective of their family vs males are more protective over their territory. So if it's an outside dog, I'd go male. If it's gonna be an indoors doggie I'd get a female. Gl

I think females are because they have that motherly instinct sometimes, but males can be too I'd just think not as protective as girls

The dog I have now is super protective of me... But she is only 12 pounds! She doesn't get along with other females so that is why I was leaning towards a male. We used to have a male lab and they were best bids until we had to put him down 2.5 years ago.

I have had males and females, i have had overly protective males and females, and super dopey, happy go lucky, someone could break in and theyd leave with them males and females. It all depends on how they are raised and some its just instinct. My standard poodle who is a year is happy go lucky loves everything and anything but can be very protective and guarding.

It depends on how they are raised. Growing up we had a female Rottweiler, super protective. My male pit that I got when I was 14 that lives with my dad, super protective. It all depends on how you raise them.

girls hands down. my female 100 lb american bulldog mix wont let my husband get any where near me or my son if he is not in a good mood. and she is getting more protective the farther along i get.

I'd have to say both. I have a female chiwienie who gets protective when hubs and I wrestle. I still can't figure out who she's trying to protect lol. Our great Dane is a male and he protects me from everything! Including the grill :) he stands right in front of me slightly touching me then puts his head down, ears back and gives the most scary look/growl I ever heard lol.

Both of my males are super protective...even the shih tzu ☺

I think both. My mom has three german shepherds (one is only 3 months old, so she doesn't count here!), both the male and older female are so protective. They have never once lashed out at someone, but they give the evil glare when they see someone they don't know.

females are but if you fix the male after one years old he will get protective too.

either or... both my dogs were protective! females tend to be a little more less trusting at times but males are more likely to act... its kinda like people(; also be aware labs are hyper dogs and need to be walked atleast 2 times a day! they are easy to train but need constant stimulation or they get into trouble.

Females are generally more protective, and Males are generally more aggressive.

I've had both and they are equally protective. My dad and I used to play fight and my female dog would always go after him even if he was just standing their. I have two boys now who don't leave my side, especially when I'm home on my own.

To protect kids??? Its according to what breed. What breeds you looking into?

I think females are. Whenever a stranger comes in my house my Sheltie positions herself between the kids and the stranger. Nobody gets between them except for me and dh.
