Dallas or Austin, I imagine. But they would both be over an hour and a half drive to Waco from opposite directions.

I deff need to plan a trip before we go and make any decisions. I wanna check out different areas and stalk out chip and Joanna ? what is the cheapest airport to fly into?

I've heard great things about Texas and have been wanting to move out there but i don't know much either so following ??

I live in Austin and never want to leave. I've lived in Texas all my life and Austin and Dallas are great. Like anywhere, it's going to depend on the area that you can afford. And I married a yankee ?

Texas doesn't collect income tax from its residents. You still pay federal taxes. The Texas Lotto is a lottery system. You don't have to participate. But there are a lot of people that do. They sell the lottery tickets at convenience stores throughout the state.

I am a "yankee" I guess. (from northeast PA) and I have been accepted just fine. And my husband works with people that just love him and invite us places all the time. I'm sure there are closed minded people here but overall, Texans haven't proved to be hateful to us.

There are people from all over the place in Texas. The Waco area is very pretty. I've been there many times. It's not a very big city by Texas standards. I would live there if we ever moved back to Texas. I'm originally from the Austin area.

It really depends on the area and neighborhood like it does anywhere. The cost of living in my neighborhood I would say is probably pretty inexpensive compared to others. I don't know New York at all but I would think it's much cheaper here. We're about to start looking for a house in the $150,000's. In my neighborhood that will get us a house built in year 2000+ 3 bedroom 2 bath, average size is 1500sq ft. Where we live prices can range quite a bit though that's just what we're looking for, there are much bigger houses for $200,000+ on the same streets. My neighborhood is quiet and the schools are supposed to be good here, my son starts next year. My in laws live in Fort Worth also just on the other side and the schools and neighborhoods are worse. Then obviously we have a lot of neighborhoods here where the houses average at $400,000. It all just depends on the location.

Modom how is cost of living there? And how are the schools?

Waco definitely has a bad reputation, I personally wouldn't move there. I've been there several times and driven through it several times to get to the coast. Like one pp said it does look and feel very trashy. I'm about and hour and half north of Waco in Fort Worth, I absolutely love it here. I think you will find rude people anywhere honestly, I've never personally heard about people specifically being rude to Yankees. But I will say I can definitely picture smaller towns like Waco not being AS welcoming. It really just depends where you're at, Fort Worth is a much bigger city so I wouldn't think that would really be a problem here. It's a lot more diverse and 'up to date' feeling if that makes sense.

Waco is touch and go. There is a nice side, but also a very trashy side as well. But I guess that's everywhere. I'm an hour and a half from there in college Station. Love love love it here!!!

No income taxes????

I currently live in NY but lived in Texas 15 years. Texans DO NOT welcome Yankees. Keep that in mind. They are fantastic ppl but I was younger and accepted. Everyone is nice, if your from those parts. The drugs are much worse than New York (I live around buffalo) keep it in mind when raising kids. Hard to believe but it's true

I moved from upstate NY to Texas three years ago. It's wayyyy more affordable (no income taxes! Yay!) not familiar with the Waco area as I live near Houston, but overall it can get really hot in the summer so air conditioning costs tend to be expensive ?

Produce and meat are cheaper, as well as gas. Housing where I am is cheaper but that depends on your area.

I moved from Pennsylvania to Texas in December. I'm about 3 hours or so from Waco in Abilene. It's been a huge adjustment. My kids (age 4 and 1) seem to enjoy it though. My daughter does miss my parents a lot as well as her school friends.

Yes! How is cost of living? If in the direct area is expensive where would be a better area. We haven't gotten tons of details from his company on if pay would stay the same or not.

What are the higher crime rate areas, also how is public schooling?

When I did a google search they didn't say nice things about Waco. ?

I made this same move 2 1/2 years ago. We worked with a realtor who made the process very easy for us. It was an easy transition for all of us and we love it here. It's definitely different in that it's super laid back.

Do a lot of research on schools and the area you want to live in. The crime rate here is relatively low but there are areas in every city that you want to stay away from.
