When I buy the crazy art or any other cheaper brand pencils or crayons they don't last long, Crayola colored pencils and crayons work better and last longer. And glue sticks don't last long when kids are pushing to hard or not putting the caps on all the way, same with crayons, they get broken easliy. And teachers already spend a lot on their classrooms to get them prepared. And when I was in school they would hand us individual white boards and we used expo markers and an old sock to clean them, and our teachers were always reminding us about putting the caps back on the marker or it would dry out. And I always remembered having to bring kleenex to school, it really comes in handy when it's cold and flu season.

The thing being, at least as far as glue and crayons and markers, the name brand ones actually work better (some of the knock off glue sticks don't actually work at all or the crayons for that matter).

It's not that it's a lot of stuff but damn why does everything have to be name brand? Are they not gonna accept other brands, and if that's the case then put all brands accepted. ?

I think it's cool that it asks for a sock and an old t-shirt instead of an eraser and art smock. Less expensive!

Looks like my 2nd graders, except we needed 16 glue sticks. The teacher was shocked at how many glue sticks she was getting as she did not help make the list because she thought she was teaching 1st grade up until about 3 weeks ago.

I wish we could post pictures. My daughters kindergarten school supply list is tiny, and I've been preparing and shopping deals (Office Depot ????) for weeks thinking itd be a lot bigger. We have enough school supplies till like 3rd grade now. Because of how small the list is we're sending all the "optional@ things like Clorox wipes and snack. Almost everything on this list has been on sale for either a penny or .25 at one store in the last couple weeks. I think target is still having sales/deals OP. Check your local Office Depot/max too ??

Eh I don't see it as a lot. Do your research, use coupons, shop early and save money. I don't see it as much considering your child's education benefits.

I got hit with the brand name shock myself op. DS' was name brand crayons, dry erase markers, glue, Kleenex, ziploc.

I tried to get it all but had to go cheap on the markers because I couldn't afford $5 for 3 black expo brand markers. I got 6 all black from dollar tree for $1.

I spent $50 on supplies alone and then $70 for uniforms and a registration fee.

My son's goes to more of a low income school. His school supplies cost say to much mainly because they want specific brands. They wanted 100 name brand pencils that were 6.99 each for example and that is on each 3rd grade student that is a lot of pencils. There were many outrageous things on the list my second graders was not as bad but still crazy.... I put my children's name on everything especially binders and scissors because some teachers at least here return them to walmart at the end of the year for a gift card. When I was shopping recently there were. Couple of binders on the shelf with names on them ... We also have to buy school supplies and pay a school supply fee. I had to buy 3 reams of copy paper and pay the school for some too.

I guess maybe I was more shocked that they asked for specifically named stuff. I thought I was going to spend a lot more than $60 dollars though.

They also many times have cubbies for the kids to put their backpacks and the larger rolling kinds may not fit or may be harder for the child to get in and out of cubbies.

The glue at Walmart, which was the cheapest place was 3.97 for a 3 pack. This is jumbo glue sticks. Not regular sized.

It ended up being around $60 dollars not including her backpack.

My daughter started Kindergarten this year and most of this list is the same. Only, we didn't have to get an old sock, ziplock bags, scissors, Googilie eyes, post its, money, or an old shirt.

But we did all the other stuff. Even the headphones.

Glue sticks don't last very long. That I can confirm. If you are doing a lot of projects that involve gluing, you'll burn through glue sticks fast.

12 glue sticks is not a lot at all. Have you seen how.some of these five year olds apply glue?! Take into account how many of them use waaay too much glue plus all of the lost lids that makes the glue dry out it is not that many. Even if there is 25 students, that is 3oo gluesticks for an entire school year. Again, it is not very much. Most schools don't want people to write names on stuff because they get dumped into.buckets and put at the tables when in use or passed out when needed. When it runs out, it is replenished with the back stock.

I believe the rolling bookbag restrictions are because of a trip hazard as well as difficulty maneuvering on & off busses. Dds school has 300+ attendees (pk-3) I couldn't imagine all those little ones going through the hall in the morning nearly tripping over each other, we were also told no rolling bookbags

As for the list ours was a bit more than this specific brands aswell not including the bookbag total was only 50ish but that also got us extras for homework.

If you shop right and don't just pick up and toss it in your cart you won't pay much.

For example those 4 packs of specific crayons are .50c at Walmart, liquid glue is .50c there too. Many of these items are cent and dollar items.

I believe the highest price item on your list is the glue sticks and I found them for 8.99 on Amazon for a 12 pack

Many teachers allow the students to use the dry erase markers on the tops of their desks or have individual boards for them to write on and hold up their answers. They will probably be using their own sock as an eraser.

I urge all of you who think that your taxes are enough, to take a look at the school districts financials. They have to provide it to anyone who requests it. Usually they post it on their websites. Look at where the money is going. Ask the central admin questions of you have concerns. Attend school board meetings. Vote for the members. You will probably have your head spinning once you realize how much money it takes to to run a school district.

12 glue sticks and 4 boxes of crayons? Are they starting a glue stick resale company? That seems excessive. I agree we need to provide schools with more funding and help. I was in school not that long ago and my lists weren't too extensive for elementary school. Not to mention people who might have a difficult time collecting the funds for this kind of brand specific list, on top of necessary expenses for the household, and potentially buying new clothes for the school year as well.

I have friends who are teachers and unfortunately they don't get paid enough to supply all for the students as the schools don't have much money to provide it either.

I can see why they ask for all that but I do feel bad for those who can't afford it :/

In my county they ask for all this stuff as well and it's not just for your child. We can't put our child's name on anything because all the supplies go to the teacher and she distributes them to the class, they ask for so much so that there is enough for every student. Some supplies go to the teacher as well-like expo markers and erasers for the dry-erase board.

I don't mind providing my child's school supplies. But why are we now providing cleaning supplies and Kleenex? In my county, homeowners pay annual property taxes and a good amount goes to the school districts. Sales tax has gone up to almost 10%. My property taxes went up $1200 this year. So it does make you wonder just what the schools are doing with the money. the schools provide less and less each year around here.

Well it's cool. If people don't purchase the supplies their own children need for school, the teacher will just buy it because she won't want them to go without. Thank goodness they get paid so much!

The bags are not gender specific. They don't need all the kids to being the same size. They need roughly half to being ones size and the other half to being another. Gender is the easiest way to make the split.
