Putting your hands on others. Opinions needed!
Putting your hands on others. Opinions needed!
DD is 4 1/2 and in pre k. I picked her up yesterday and asked her what she did in school. She told me a kid was in her way and he wouldn't move so she moved him. I do not condone putting your hands on others! I asked her how she moved him and she wouldn't tell me. I emailed her teacher about it. She said she spoke to DD about personal space and took care of the situation. I feel like this is something the teacher should have notified me about. She didn't tell me how DD moved the other child either. Am I wrong for thinking the teacher should have told me about this?

I think if I were the teacher, and it was handled appropriately at the time and I saw no indication that it was an ongoing issue, I wouldn't have felt it necessary to make a point to bring it up with you. If you disagree, share your feelings with her and ask her to consider talking to you about any issues in the future.

It might not have been all that serious. I'm sure if she had knocked the kid down or something you would've been notified. If it was handled I wouldn't find it necessary for the teacher to contact me as long as it wasn't serious.

I guess I'm just new to all of this. She has always been with me so I always knew what was going on.

In my daycare at least (ages 0-5) we only let the parents know if it was a particularly bad incident, or if it's multiple times in one day.
In my SS's kindergarten (5-6 years old) they notify us immediately if the children are involved in an altercation because they should know better.

If they were to notify parent of every "incident" like this you'd all be in line for an hour every day to pick kids up. It's normal behaviors for the most part. It's only when it gets excessive that they bring it up

Thank you ladies. I'm a helicopter mom clearly ?

I think you are normal! Just maybe adjust your expectations a little bit. She is going to have to learn how to socialize without your help, and this is all normal childhood development stuff.

Nandf do it now or else you will be like me and expect to know every little thing! I was just dumbfounded when she ratted herself out and no one said anything about it.

Wow! The teacher should not have done that to you! If you have to go you have to go! I'm so sorry you went threw that!

If it was a one time thing and she resolved it with your daughter, I wouldn't be upset. I worked in a daycare and if I had to right out a note to all the parents of every "not so nice" thiings their kids did, I would never get anything else done.
