20 week ultrasound question
20 week ultrasound question
So yesterday I made my appt for July 31st for my 20 week US and they told me I didn't have to drink any water before it. Is that normal? Did you have to drink water before yours?

Drinking water before 20 wks u/s?? I go for my anatomy scan on Monday and plan on seeing the sex too. They didn't tell me to drink water beforehand and have a full bladder at the u/s.
So I really have not been drinking water...I've been drinking lots of juice, lemonade, but not necessarily water. I just can't stand the taste of water and I'm picky about water I drink. I know I need to drink it though. Any other mamas not drink water through there pregnancy or don't do well drinking water? Will not drinking water affect my baby alot?
Can I drink water before my glucose test? I know I have to be on an empty stomach
Trigger. Lost baby Went in for my 20 week check up and found out our son had passed away. Nothing was wrong, my pregnancy has been going great. I'm so numb right now. I'll he delivering him later this week. I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this. Not before Christmas. How am I'm going to tell my kids?? My dear sweet baby boy. Why did this happen?

With all 3 and now 4 of my kids I've had to drink lots of water 1 hour prior to the ultrasound and not to empty my bladder....so yes to me that does sound weird

They don't care if I drink, just not empty my bladder. Honestly, at 20 weeks, baby should be bid enough for them to see what they need to.
Janet·
hmm okay...I was just wondering if maybe I got the wrong instructions but okay thanks (:
Janet·
Ok thanks ladies! I'll call back just to make sure.

They didn't even tell me to drink before my 9 week u/s. At 20 weeks you should be good to go. I usually drink a bottle of water on my way just to be safe... and then regret it when my bladder feels like it might burst thru the whole u/s :)
Janet·
Haha oh I know that feeling! (:

I had to drink water before, but it didn't make it to my bladder yet, for whatever reason. They were still able to get the measurements though.

They told me with me daughter at 16 weeks to drink water & use the bathroom an hour before. The 25th is mine for this pregnancy, I'll be a little under 19 weeks & they told me just the same. So yea, sounds strange to me! Lol.

Yes you better drink water because if you don't they will tell you they can't see anything because you didn't drink water to rebook for another day.

Mines the same way. When I booked my appt she said just to do my normal routine. So no, she said not to worry about drinking extra. My bladder seems to fill up quite easily as it is, so I'm not worried about it.

For me they suggested not emptying my bladder and eating like 20-30 minutes before. They told me this helps make the baby more active so they could get the measurements and see the gender.

They didn't tell me to drink water, just make sure I eat before.
Janet·
Hmm okay well yes I am going to call back and make sure. I wouldn't want to have to reschedule.

I was told that I don't have to drink an ungodly amount of water for this 2nd ultrasound. I can eat and drink normally. Then again I have to go get a level 2 ultrasound being considered high risk due to age.
