Please help
I'm going back to work soon and I'm having trouble pumping my milk. Not sure what's going on but I'm only getting 1-2 oz from both breasts combined. I have pumped in the past and this wasn't an issue. I've tried pumping in the morning as well as at night. It's taking me like four sessions just to fill a 5 oz. bag. My lo has no trouble getting milk when he's nursing. I've also tried two different pumps and the same thing happens with both. Does anyone know what could be going on? Or having any suggestions on what to do? I'm getting really discouraged...

Have you used both a manual and an electric pump? Some respond great to manuals and some to electric.
Are your pump parts new/newish? Fresh pump parts can help with getting milk.
Do you have the right size flange?
Have you tried massaging your breast while pumping? Or used a warm compress while pumping?

@megz I wonder if it's the flange? How do I know if the one I'm using is the right size?

I got this off of the medela website so I made sure to give the correct information.
TOO SMALL:
If your breastshield is too small, your nipple will rub along side of the tunnel. Try a larger size.
TOO LARGE:
If your breastshield is too large, your nipple, along with excessive areola, will be pulled into the tunnel. You may benefit from a smaller size.
Correct fit:
When your breastshield fits correctly, your nipple will be centered in the breastshield tunnel and move freely during pumping.

I was having the same problem with one of my breasts. Turns out I needed a smaller flange for that one breast. Once I switched I got SO much more milk from that side. Definitely try different sizes on each side to find the best fit!

Thank you! I'll see if changing the size helps. I think it might be too small ... I'm also going to try manually pumping and see if it helps.

Are you letting down?
Not to scare you but when this happened when I was nursing baby three, I was unknowingly pregnant with number 4. I went from pumping like 10-12oz a session to getting barely anything. I would just not let down when pumping and my boobs stopped responding to the pump. After a week of this, and some other symptoms, took a test and BOOM, pregnant.

Yes I'm letting down. But it's for a very short period and then nothing comes out afterwards..I'm on the mirena so I shouldn't be pregnant...

I tried my manual this morning and the same thing is happening. I've used my manual in the past without a problem so I'm not sure what's going on ? I hope my milks not going away

I read somewhere that birth control could affect your supply. I'll look it up.. Brb

The third and last choice of birth control for nursing mothers is methods which contain estrogen, such as the standard combined oralcontraceptives. These methods are very effective, but often decrease milk supply, and some of the hormone may pass into the mother's milk
