Heavy lifting
Does anyone know if heavy lifting early on in pregnancy can actually hurt the baby? I've read in some places that it's only a myth. I work in retail and sometimes have to lift heavy mannequins. A few hours after moving the mannequins blood started pouring down my leg at work. It was the same color and and amount of blood as if I had just started my period. (I tend to have heavier periods.)I freaked out and rushed to the emergency room and baby is fine THANK GOD. They looked at my cervix, gave me a doppler test, hcg levels test and an ultrasound and found absolutely nothing wrong. But I never got an explanation as to why I started bleeding and I'm wondering if it could've been from the heavy lifting? I'm a little over 12 weeks btw

I was 9 weeks and didn't know I was pregnant and was lifting 50 pound boxes. I stopped after that but was told that if your body is used to it, there shouldn't be a problem.

I asked my doctor if I could still lift weights and she said that I can still exercise what I'm used to doing as long as there's no pain or bleeding with it. Since it sounds like you only sometimes lift heavy things maybe your body isn't as use to it. Maybe follow up with your doctor and get her/ his advice!

If you have a history of miscarriages, your obstetrician will probably recommend that you refrain from lifting heavy objects. Not only is your center of gravity changing, but lifting something with improper form can cause you to pull a muscle or ligament. To avoid being overloaded, divide up your grocery list and make more frequent trips to the store so you aren't purchasing as many items at one time. If no one is at home to help you bring them in, buy non-perishable items only and leave them in the car until you can get some help. If you absolutely have to lift, pay careful attention to your stance and keep your core muscles tight. Try to lift things that are level with your core so you aren't reaching up, down, over, or under. Clear other items out of the range of motion so you have ample room and control.

I'm 39+2 and still do heavy lifting at work. I've been working the same schedule, with the same company, lifting the same people, for 2 years - so I'm used to it. Like pp said, if your body is used to it - it shouldn't cause a problem.

With my first I was a cashier at a supermarket, lifting up to 50 lbs was normal for me for years. I kept going like usual until it just got awkward at the end. Lift smart (with your knees, not your back) and you should be fine.

I don't normally lift alot on a regular basis but I have to life boxes at work that are 44lbs and one day I got a really sharp pain in my tummy (probably round ligament pain) while lifting one, but talked to my doctor about it and she put me on lifting restictons. My work has a very strict 0 injury accident culture anyway so they wouldn't allow me to lift after that.

I was still throwing 50-60lb bales of hay and bags of grain (for the horses) till I was 16weeks pregnant. I stopped after that due to my dr telling me no more.

Hmm I was lifting chairs while pregnant but honestly it depends on the weight and just be very careful it's better to stop lifting heavy things then to regret it later.

I'm 37 weeks, on Monday I did laundry about three loads. Basket was too heavy and I pulled my back. Yesterday it gave out after walking 30 mins when I slipped on top stair. Fell on my bum only down one step thank God. Now I can't walk or do anything to get ready for baby. Giving it 24 hrs then I have to go to emerg. Be very careful. It isn't worth it, trust me!

If heavy lifting is causing bleeding do not do it without first talking to doc...a lot of times it can cause a small tear in the placenta which can or cannot cause problems but it's hard telling til it's too late...ur doc should Def give u a weight limit if it caused bleeding...mine did and said that If anything I do is causing bleeding it can lead to a threatened miscarriage. ..Good luck hun
