I had to breastfeed/supplement w/ formula because my son was a big eater.

He drank 3 oz every 2-3 hrs starting the day he was born.

He latched perfectly fine but once he realized he wasn't getting milk from me the first few days he wasn't having it lol

So the nurse gave me 1 oz of formula for him & he was still hungry. So they gave me another oz, still wasn't happy and after the 3rd oz he was fine. Lol

By the time he was 1 mo he was onto 4 oz and by 3 mo he was drinking 6-8 and that continued until he was 1 and started drinking milk.

He was also 2 weeks overdue so idk if that matters.

I ended up not being able to breast feed after 6 months because he was very greedy lol he wanted his milk and he wanted it when he wanted it and he didn't have patience to be breastfed. I tried pumping as long as I could but he was very demanding when it came to eating. So I ended up giving up around 7 mo on pumping/bf.

Hoping ds2 won't be that way & I can breastfeed at least 1 year.

He rarely spit up. & He was never a heavy/big baby, he was always right at the average range. So I know he wasn't being overfed or over eating.

I guess I'm looking at it different then. To me a baby over eating and being over fed are diffrent.

Yeah I'm with Nancy on this one. Babies do suckle and people mistake that for hunger... I messed this up recently when I thought he was hungry more and he threw up everything because he was already too full. At 3 days it was an ounce now at 2 weeks he takes 2.5 ounces sometimes 3.

Yes you can over feed a baby. But babies will not over eat unless you are forcing them to feed. They have a self-regulation system: When they’re hungry, they eat. When they are full, they stop. So, When they keep coming back for more, they are hungry. Pay attention to your baby and you shouldn't have a problem.

Slow flow nipple go 1 to 2 oz at a time and see if lo wants anymore

Try latching everyday too! He will get the hang of it. Also my husband and I are travis and Kyla lol

I believe a newborns stomach is the size of a quarter. Don't give 2.5-3oz! Try 1oz and if baby is still hungry give another. Most babies will not over eat, they stop when they are full.

Idk BC I ff and when my baby was a newborn he drank 2oz every 2 or3 hrs..

By day 3, they should only be getting .75 to 1 oz at a time and I believe they feed about once an hour at that age. By one week their stomach grows to hold about 1.5 to 2 oz per feeding. Please be careful not to stretch their belly. It's very easy to do when using a bottle. Look up pace feeding, like Nancy suggested and I would recommend a preemie nipple so they have to work a little harder at getting the milk.

When my baby was 3 days old I gave him about an ounce, (30ml) of breastmilk. I had to up it to about 2-2.5 ounces around a week old and let him eat til full because he wasn't gaining weight fast enough. It was basically an ounce an hour he was having for the first 2 months.

I would start with 2.5 oz or 3oz.
