#2 at 35

Hi ladies, I'm Teresa I'm 35 and expecting baby #2. With my first, I was 34 when he was born but they did extra scans because I have a history of high blood pressure. I have my 1st appt next Wednesday and wonder if they do any NST or extra scans after age 35? They asked me if I'd be over 35 at delivery, so wasn't sure. My mom had me when she was 39, and she didn't have any testing other than an ultrasound or two but that was 35 years ago in a small town.

@ktlenon NST=non stress test - you're hooked up to a monitor & u push a button every time u feel the baby move over a certain period of time.

What is NST?

I was 35 when I had my 1st baby, and had lost a twin so I was considered high risk until week 20 after they confirmed everything looked good on the anatomy scan. I did not have any extra scans after that. I think it definitely depends on each woman's own personal medical history and how the pregnancy is progressing. Even though the high risk age starts at 35, my dr said you're really not that high risk at that age. I think once you get to about 38 and up is when the high risk starts to be more concerning.

I guess it does depend on where you live because I'm in Memphis, TN. I'm 36 and considered AMA strictly due to my age. I've had 3 ultrasounds already and I'm 23 weeks preggo. I will have an ultrasound and scan every month until I deliver. Every other week once I get 8 to 9 months.

It depends on where you live. Where I am, 40 is now considered AMA. They don't do any extra scans for women under 40 unless something is wrong.

For my first pregnancy at 35-36, I had a dating ultrasound, one ultrasound to screen for genetic disorders (because I opted for it) and one anatomy scan. For this pregnancy at 39, I've just had the dating ultrasound and anatomy scan but I also had an additional ultrasound in the first tri to figure out why I was bleeding.

Congratulations! Yes you're now considered AMA (sorry worst term ever!) they will do more scans & possibly NST later in your pregnancy. I had my first at 34 & I had both extra scans & NST even tho she was due b4 I would turn 35. I'm now 40 & 24wks pregnant w/#2 & am having scans at every visit. My OB hasn't brought up NST yet. I think I started them last time around 32wks?

Congratulations again & H&H 9mos?
