MAJOR RANT!

So my husband and I are basically facked. He took one week off so we could move from medicine hat ab to Vernon bc. His boss said they were laying people off and to call him before he goes back. He was supposed to go back tomorrow so he called today and his boss said they are over staffed so he needs to take another week off. Our rent is 1850 st our new place. My husband gets paid weekly. He just got his last check yesterday and isn't supposed to get one this coming week because he didn't work last week. Now he won't get one for another week after that because he had this coming week off. I have no idea what we are supposed to do rents due July 1st and we are so screwed. Any ideas on how to make cash fast? I'm freaking out and I dont want our landlord to think we took on something we can't afford. We can afford this place just the timing for all of this is kind of cruddy. We can afford something more pricey than this place too but decided we didn't want to let go of the privilege of buying whatever we wanted and saving money. I'm so ticked.

Oh and its not like we could have moved on his days off because he doesn't get them. He was working 12 hours away with one day off a week. We haven't seen him in 2 months and had we not had to move it would have been longer. He's not a rigger or anything. He doesn't get those types of shifts. He's 6 days on one day off.

His job isn't based out of Alberta it's Canada wide and based out of Ontario. Every year we put away 1 paycheck a month or so because my husband gets a winter layoff and that money helps us get by. This last layoff killed the savings. We are supposed to start putting the money away again next month but he ended up with another week off work. Had we KNOWN they were laying guys off my husband wouldn't have taken the time off. He's not an idiot. This was told to him a few days after he got home. He tried to go back a few days early and his boss kept telling him he would call him back. 1850 for the house We live in and the area it's in is a wicked price. I wasn't asking to be thrown under the bus and basically told that this issue is completely our fault. I was asking for ideas to make a quick buck.

Honestly, in Alberta right now you should have never taken time off to move. It a very tough job market right now and you don't do anything to piss off your employer. I think you need to find a cheaper place to rent. You are not being honest with yourself if you can't afford rent after missing 2 weeks of work. My hubby was laid off for 4 months and now has a job that pays 25% of what he was previously making. We survived and never raked up any additional debt or missed any bills. You NEED to change your lifestyle. It's harsh, but that's the truth of the situation right now.

Gosh I wish my rent was $1850 . We pay $3200 in south Florida . It blows ! But yea I'm sorry op your going through this . Also need an emergency stash , we always at least $12,000 in a bank for times like this . Like pp , any electronics or anything to sell ? Guns are good . People are wanting to buy them since everything going on lately .

$1850 for Vernon seems pretty expensive. Are you renting a full house? Maybe look into an apartment or townhouse. I'm in Kelowna and rent half a duplex (3 bedrooms) for $1200. Kelowna is generally more expensive than Vernon.

If you haven't already, join the Facebook group called mamas for mamas. It's mostly Kelowna moms but there are some Vernon moms on there. Maybe someone on there will be able to help you find a babysitting type job or something.

$1850? Whew! That sounds steep to me, but I'm just a redneck from Indiana. Anyways, I agree with pp's, I wouldn't go to the landlord, they won't understand. Do you have family or friends you can borrow the money from and pay them back?

So his boss said they where laying off pepole and you guys still took time off? I get you guys had to move but a full week? Why not on days off? I would try calling the boss back. How do they go from laying pepole off to being over staffed? That sounds like he could be next to lay off if they don't need him for two weeks. I would start looking for a new job and cut everything extra. So cable, internet, cell phones and any luxury items. Its your first month in a new home. I would not contact the landlord. Once your on your feet you can turn everything back on but a roof over your head should take priority.

If I knew they were laying ppl off at work, I would NOT take that time off. I agree with the other ladies that you should have had money saved in case something like this happens .

^^^ exactly what I was going to post earlier but held my tongue for once.

I'm also not trying to be rude but you should have 6 months of bills saved up for times like this. Especially if you say you can afford whatever you want.

It really depends on how short you are.. We hit a super rough patch(debit card info was stolen) and I ended up having to pawn my wedding ring but we got it back out as soon as the situation was fixed.

I promise I'm not trying to kick you when you're down. But if losing 2 weeks of money means you can't pay your rent, you definitely can't "afford something more pricey than this". I don't recommend talking to the landlord. You JUST moved in and get laid off. Even though its temporary, they won't see that. They'll see it as you'll be late more often. Can you pawn anything? Xbox, jewelry, guns? That way you get it back once you're back on your feet. Hope you figure something out, and he gets back to work soon!

Sell stuff. Literally may be junk to you. But someone may want it.

If in most desperation sell your wedding ring if you don't have other jewelry to sell

Odd jobs

It's cherry picking season here in the okanagan, maybe your husband can see if any local orchards need help picking? Welcome to the Valley, I'm in West Kelowna.

I don't have much advice but I wish I could help you in some way. Just know that whatever happens from this you WILL bounce back from!

Sell anything you might possibly have to part with on a Facebook buy and sell. I usually make a few hundred a month just doing it causally.

Side jobs like lawn mowing, yard work, cleaning houses, etc.

I'd throw you some ones. ???

Glenncoco I've thought about it ?? although I don't think anyone would fancy watching this momma swing around a pole. As do selling things the only thing I have worth anything at all is my antique marble coffee table and end tables that my grandmother gave me because I fell in love with them. I'm really good at cooking and could easily make money selling food but right now I'm not able to buy the things for food. Once we get back on track though my plan was to sell re finished furniture and bake things to sell. Its really hard when I'm a sahm and there's no time for me to get back to work and make enough before rents due. I think he's going to try and get a term loan. My credits awful because my ex was a controlling pos. I'm still working on it.

Could you start babysitting?? I like pps food making idea along with selling some of your things. Good luck, I hope you figure something out!!

Yea I would use my line of credit too. They are great for emergencies like this

Нравится Ответить

If it were me - I would use my line of credit and pay it back when I could. Not sure if applying for one is an option for you.

Find a pole. ??

Jk.

I'm no help.

Sell food, depending on where you are at and weather. I been selling, tacos, tamales, bread, ceviche, champurrado, dorilocos. I easily make 300- 500 a week And I do it all through Facebook, and word of mouth, I stopped working 2 months ago and this is how I been managing.. Also tomorrow is Father's Day, it might be too late, but dollar tree and 99cent store.. Along with edible arrangement, in Dad mugs. And a cute creative packaging. I hope this helps

Pawn/sell stuff you don't need. Mow people's grass.

Maybe talk to your landlord, tell him what's going on and maybe come to some agreement?
