I'm really praying for everyone in fort Mac. This is what it looks like just a few hours North of me. ????
People from all over alberta are doing their best to help. Im 30minutes north from edmonton and the refugees have started flooding into town. People are opening their doors to house families and we're coordinating our efforts to help those in our town. I was able to help one family that had been given the use of an r.v to shelter in. I gave them my pack and play and a good amount of my youngests clothing(that hes currently in), toys, snacks and a couple board games for their older children. It is amazing to see the outpouring of generosity and help being offered. I just wish I could do more but with our current situation I don't want to leave dh alone.
One of my husband's best friends just got evacuated!
It's times like this that I'm thankful for social media and he was able to keep everyone posted on his safety!
I pray that everyone else stays safe and that they get this fire under control soon.
So many people have already lost their homes :(
I guess leaving fort Mac there's tons of people stranded on the side of highway 63 with no gas food water or formula.. I feel terrible for everyone affected.
There are warnings all over alberta because it's so dry. A little spark from anything, or broken glass could have caused this.
The comment about people's animals made me feel sick. Couldn't imagine how afraid and confused they are in their final moment.
ETA they are driving towards the fire because to get onto the highway they must turn left. I've been up there quite a few times for work.
Not sure what started it. We have had a very mild winter so there is little moisture in the ground, we have also had high temperatures the past couple of days and it's been windy. All this factoring has caused this huge fire but since it's still blazing they can't really go investigate to figure out what actually happened.
My daughter's father is (well, I hope he isn't now) in Fort McMurray. Nobody can get ahold of him right now. Hoping he is somewhere safe and just cannot contact us.
My SO's brother is currently travelling back and fourth with gas and tools to help those stuck on the side of the road.
My cousin is a firefighter in Fort McMurray.
I'm here in Nova Scotia, but worried sick.
Thinking of everybody effected by this in any way!
Yeah. The whole city of 120000 people have been evacuated. My mil is working up there in a camp. She's been evacuated this morning. When the evacuation order can out if people were at work they had to leave from where they were. Couldn't go home to gather anything. So many pets had to be left behind.
Hey your from Mac?! I used to live up there too. I heard oretty much the whole town is up there and they evacuated everyone out to site. I really hope everyone got out!!
