Guilt over elected induction
Guilt over elected induction
Well, my elective induction is scheduled for Friday. I'll be 39+3. I'm feeling super guilty about electing into an induction, but I weighed the pros and cons and I decided this is what's best for my family right now. Yet I still feel guilty. I'm assuming this feeling will go away once I meet my sweet baby girl... or at least I'm hoping it does.

I electively induced because my baby wouldn't stay head down. I was not happy about it and felt super guilty. I had had two spontaneous labors before and this was my last baby. But, it all turned out okay. And she's here and perfectly healthy. I don't think about the induction at all anymore. It does suck more than natural labor though.

I'm having an elected induction so I can insure my husband won't miss another delivery! You have to do what's best for your family and baby. I'm not letting them break my water right away though. I'm gonna have the Pitocin and let them give me pills to thin me out, and see what happens! If your body is ready, your water should break on its own. I've been induced both ways. And it's worse if they break your water right at the beginning.

If my baby stays put all week (due Thursday) we are going in Sunday to start induction. My first was born 40 + 6 and came on his own so I feel guilty not giving this baby enough of a chance to do the same ? I'll be 40 + 3
Exactly 41 weeks would be thanksgiving day..... and I really want my doctor to be the one to deliver

I was so adamant against induction with my first. I actually bawled at the doctors office when they said I had to be inducted at 40w due to GD. This time around I'm borderline GD and have had great numbers so they are letting me go to 41 weeks yet here I am scheduling an induction for 39+3. I just feel selfish because I'm scheduling it for then to maximize my husband's time off so he can be home with us at least a week and to also arrange for care of my 16 month old without tramping on anyone's Thanksgiving plans. Quite honestly if Thanksgiving weren't next week I wouldn't be doing this. Now I'm left feeling guilty and so selfish.

You ladies all have such valid reasons! Mine are so trivial.

I felt guilty about mine too and mine was 39+3 as well, my reasons were because I was incredibly uncomfortable and my family was here for a few days to help out and couldn't reschedule their flights, it ended up being a really good thing though because my fluid was way too high and they didn't know until they did an ultrasound when I got to the hospital that morning and my son had formed 3 true knots in his cord and the doctor told me that he was lucky to have lived through that because they could have easily knotted too tightly and he wouldnt have made it. I had a gut feeling it was for the best but still couldn't help but feel guilty.

I'm struggling with this so bad right now!! I'm scheduled to have my water broken tomorrow morning. I'll be 38 weeks with twins, so I know they don't want me going much over that anyway. But the boys seem comfy cozy and are doing well. I'm miserable but it's fine, because I know they're still growing.
However, I have five other kids and I am 5cm dilated for a while now. We have been staying at my parents house because they are way closer to the hospital (we live an hour from it) and when labor starts we know it'll be fast. My kids are all getting crabby being away from home and off schedule for over a week now and one keeps having allergic reactions here and her skin is bloodied and raw. I hate feeling like I'm choosing between kids but we decided it's in our family units best interest overall to have my waters broken tomorrow and move on with life.
I don't get mom guilt often, but I definitely have it over this!

@lydia - oh man! I totally believe that everything happens for a reason, and your story is proof. I'm so glad everything turned out well for you and little man. Thank you for sharing your story!
@tara - You have such solid reason for an induction. How have you even made it this long?! You shouldn't feel guilty at all. How exciting that you get to meet your boys tomorrow ?

Yea I kinda felt guilty about our elective induction. But its what worked for us. We live an hour from the hospital and have 2 other little ones who needed watched. My inlaws were going to be gone a full week following my due date (the only ones available to watch the kids) so I was scheduled for an induction on the 3rd and I was due the 5th. My induction went smoothly.
